Upright Education provides a turnkey platform for community colleges and regional universities to easily launch and monetize specialized bootcamps in fields like software engineering, data analytics, tech sales, and digital marketing. Our part-time, hybrid programs are specifically designed to serve underserved schools and overlooked communities. In addition to technical skills, we offer career services to help learners transition successfully into their new careers.

Role Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Career Advisor with a strong focus on employer engagement to join our tech bootcamp team. As a Career Advisor, you will play a crucial role in guiding and supporting our learners throughout their career development journey, helping them secure rewarding employment opportunities in the tech industry. Your primary responsibility will be to provide personalized career coaching and mentoring to our learners, while also building and maintaining strong relationships with employers to facilitate successful job placements.

Responsibilities

Career Coaching:

  • Conduct individual career coaching sessions to assist learners in defining their career goals, developing job search strategies, and creating tailored resumes, cover letters, and portfolios.
  • Provide guidance and support in honing interview skills, including mock interviews and feedback sessions to help learners prepare for technical and behavioral interviews.
  • Offer advice on networking, professional branding, and leveraging online platforms for job search purposes.

Employer Engagement:

  • Establish and maintain relationships with local and national employers, industry professionals, and recruitment agencies to identify employment opportunities for our learners.
  • Organize and facilitate employer networking events, weekly guest speaking events, and company presentations to connect learners with potential employers and enhance their understanding of the tech job market.
  • Actively promote our bootcamp and our learners to employers, highlighting the unique skills and talents our graduates possess.

Job Placement Support:

  • Assist learners in preparing job applications, tailoring resumes, and creating compelling cover letters to maximize their chances of securing interviews.
  • Support learners in negotiating job offers, reviewing employment contracts, and providing guidance on salary expectations and benefits packages.
  • Track and monitor learner job placement progress, maintaining accurate records and documentation of learner outcomes for reporting purposes.
  • Collect feedback from employers on our graduates' performance and incorporate it into program improvements and curriculum updates.

Continuous Learning:

  • Stay up to date with industry trends, job market dynamics, and employer expectations in the tech sector.
  • Continuously expand your knowledge of the tech industry and its various roles, technologies, and career paths.
  • Engage in professional development activities, attend conferences, and participate in relevant networking events to enhance your career coaching and employer engagement skills.

Career Services Curriculum Development:

  • Collaborate with management and the curriculum team to develop async curriculum and resources for learner support for new and existing bootcamp tracks.
  • Develop career resources for learners to further their career development and job search pursuits.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years in career coaching, job placement, or talent acquisition/recruitment, preferably within the tech industry, is required.
  • Strong knowledge of the tech job market, including in-demand skills, industry trends, and employer expectations.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Familiarity with various job search tools, applicant tracking systems, and professional networking platforms.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Passion for helping others succeed and a genuine interest in supporting individuals' career development.
