Overview

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, build, and maintain a modern, high‑performance web browser on macOS. This role focuses on developing and improving browser functionality within a large, complex codebase, contributing to open‑source browser platforms, and delivering a reliable, performant, and high‑quality client experience on Apple platforms.

You will work on widely used browser software that impacts millions of users, solving challenging engineering problems across performance, reliability, and platform integration. Starting January 26, 2026, Microsoft AI (MAI) employees who live within a 50- mile commute of a designated Microsoft office in the U.S. or 25-mile commute of a non-U.S., country-specific location are expected to work from the office at least four days per week. Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, test, and maintain software components for a desktop web browser on macOS.
  • Contribute to browser functionality in large-scale, open-source codebases (e.g., Chromium-based architectures).
  • Improve browser stability, performance, reliability, and maintainability through solid engineering practices.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex issues related to rendering, browser processes, performance, and platform integration.
  • Participate in technical design discussions and code reviews, upholding high standards for code quality and system design.
  • Collaborate with engineers, program managers, and quality partners across teams.
  • Contribute to automated testing, diagnostics, and continuous improvement of engineering workflows.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years of professional software development experience with large, complex codebases.
  • Solid fundamentals in software design, data structures, algorithms, and system architecture.
  • Experience developing client applications on macOS.
  • Familiarity with web browser architectures, rendering engines, or Chromium‑based projects.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of professional software development experience with large, complex codebases.
  • Experience with performance analysis, crash diagnostics, and reliability engineering for client software.
  • Experience using modern developer tools, including AI‑assisted coding and debugging tools, to improve productivity and code quality; ability to critically evaluate AI‑generated output.
  • Exposure to modern engineering workflows such as CI/CD pipelines and automated testing.
  • Software Design & Systems Thinking: Ability to design and maintain modular, maintainable components within large, complex systems
  • Problem Solving & Debugging: Proven experience diagnosing and resolving complex issues in production-quality codebases
  • Engineering Excellence: Strong commitment to code quality, testing, performance, and reliability
  • Collaboration & Communication: Effective technical collaboration in cross‑functional and globally distributed teams
  • Ownership & Accountability: Ability to take problems from definition through implementation, validation, and ongoing improvement
