Overview

Core AI is at the forefront of Microsoft's mission to redefine how software is built and experienced in the AI era. Our product portfolio includes vital developer tools like VS Code, Visual Studio, GitHub, AI Foundry, and others. Our work enables developers and enterprises to harness the full potential of AI to create intelligent, adaptive, and transformative software.

The EngThrive Insights team is responsible for understanding the developer experience through rigorous data analysis and applied research. Our mission is to deliver insights that enable Microsoft to be the best place to work as an engineer, where it is fast and easy to do great work.

In this role, you will serve as a Principal Program Manager owning the product vision, roadmap, and strategy for the EngThrive developer productivity platform. You will define how Microsoft measures and improves engineering effectiveness at scale, partnering with internal engineering teams to understand their productivity challenges, translating those into a prioritized platform backlog, and shipping data-driven capabilities that help teams become true AI-first, frontier development organizations. You will work closely with Core AI CVP leadership to form an opinionated perspective on the future of software development productivity, and ensure our analytical systems evolve to match.

Success in this position requires deep versatility across software engineering, data analytics, AI tooling, and change management -- combined with the ability to drive cross-divisional alignment and execution.

Responsibilities
  • Define and own a multi-year product vision for the EngThrive developer productivity platform at Microsoft: with a clear roadmap.

  • Grow the platform with the rigor of an external product platform: prioritized backlog, release planning, adoption analysis, and deprecation policies.

  • Own the end-to-end developer insight experience across the developer workflow, from environment provisioning and code authoring, through CI/CD, review, deployment, and incident response

  • Drive the company's AI-assisted and agentic coding strategy: form an opinionated, data-backed perspective on where AI tooling is best served and ship integrated AI capabilities into the platform.

  • Partner with data scientists to go beyond dashboards: prioritization of research, controlled experiments, and predictive models where every study has a clear line to productivity gains.

  • Operate as an executive-level strategic voice: translate complex productivity data into narratives that drive investment decisions, influence VP/CVP engineering leaders on practices and tooling, and establish org-level productivity targets.

  • Shape the company's external position in developer productivity: through strategic partnerships, standards participation, and conference presence.

  • 5+ years of experience working directly with an engineering organization to improve productivity.

  • 3+ years of experience in support of data science and/or research efforts.

  • Experience shipping AI-powered capabilities or defining an AI tooling strategy, particularly around AI-assisted or agentic coding.
