As an Account Technology Strategist, you will have the opportunity to design and drive leading edge technology initiatives in partnership with your government customers, both supporting your customers’ desired business outcomes and achieving Microsoft’s business objectives. Paired with an Account Executive, leveraging your large, multi-functional v-team across the breadth of the Microsoft product portfolio and the vast catalog of Microsoft Partner offerings, you will build and grow your network of technology executives within your customers and bring industry-relevant solutions to help the customers adopt and embrace AI technologies. With a proven history of innovating technical solutions to achieve customers’ business objectives and achieving account growth targets, this role will give you the opportunity to combine your technology and industry knowledge to deliver on AI solutions to accelerate your customers’ AI vision and to ultimately become their trusted technology advisor.
The Account Technology Strategist acts as a trusted technical and strategic advisor for complex customer accounts, serving as a “virtual Chief Technology Officer”. The individual brings together business insight, industry knowledge, and deep expertise in Microsoft technologies to help customers solve real business problems and plan for the future. They lead technology strategy and digital transformation efforts by translating customer business goals into clear technology roadmaps and actionable solutions. The role works closely with senior customer leaders to demonstrate the value of Microsoft solutions, guide long‑term technology decisions, and position Microsoft ahead of competitors. It drives demand by identifying and shaping new opportunities, coaching teams on opportunity creation, and helping technical specialists effectively sell Microsoft offerings. The individual coordinates global teams and partners, establishes strong account planning practices, and delivers regular industry and technology briefings to senior decision makers. They also build enablement plans to ensure customers and teams are prepared to adopt and succeed with Microsoft technologies.

Responsibilities
Trusted Advisor
- Provides account‑level thought leadership across IT, business, and security.
- Acts as the voice of the customer to Product and Engineering teams.
- Leverages partner and internal ecosystems to increase impact.
- Positions security as a business enabler using Zero Trust and Microsoft Security.
Customer and Industry Insights
- Applies deep industry expertise to inform sales strategy, partners, and solutions.
- Identifies trends, risks, and growth barriers; transfers insights across industries.
- Synthesizes global best practices and case studies to forecast and guide account strategy.
- Orchestrates cross‑regional and technical teams to address customer business challenges.
Differentiated Value Proposition
- Partners with senior executives to position Microsoft as the best long‑term choice.
- Acts as a Technology Mentor to C‑level, TDM, and business leaders.
- Leads digital transformation and drives market share (e.g., cloud, AI).
- Captures customer wins as references and represents Microsoft publicly.
Education and Thought Leadership
- Leads technical engagement across customer, partner, and Microsoft teams.
- Delivers regular industry and technology briefings to senior decision makers.
- Builds enablement and skilling plans to drive adoption and long‑term engagement.
- Positions Microsoft’s strategic value through thought leadership.
Technology Sales: Demand Generation and Orchestration
- Leads Account Strategy Envisioning to create and progress new opportunities.
- Drives demand and consumption pipeline velocity with extended teams.
- Coaches peers on opportunity creation and Microsoft priority alignment.
- Leads AI and Industrial Metaverse strategy, roadmap, and execution with partners.
Technology Strategy Formulation
- Develops multi‑horizon business and technology roadmaps for strategic customers.
- Translates business objectives into Industry Technology Architectures.
- Identifies blockers, aligns stakeholders, and drives end‑to‑end execution.
- Ensures adoption and delivery of digital transformation outcomes.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Business or related field AND 6+ years technical consulting, technical consultative selling, business consulting, practice building, or related technical/sales experience
- OR equivalent experience.
Other Requirements:
This role requires the ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Reliability Clearance Status screening: This position requires that the successful candidate obtain and maintain a Reliability clearance status screening with the Government of Canada. Preference may be provided to individuals who have, or have the ability to obtain, Reliability Clearance Status. Microsoft will work with individuals on a case-by-case basis to determine if the requisite screening can be obtained within required timelines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Business or related field AND 12+ years technical consulting, technical consultative selling, business consulting, practice building, or related technical/sales experience OR equivalent experience.
- 6+ years experience in relevant public sector or government sector.
- 6+ years experience in digital transformation, or using technology to drive customer business outcomes.
Account Technology IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across Canada is CAD $128,000 - CAD $222,400 per year.
