We are the Office extensibility team in Office Ecosystem to provide developers with the platform and APIs to further customize and enrich Office capabilities to meet customer emerging needs in today’s mobile-first and cloud-first world, as well as integrate Office capabilities into your own desktop or mobile applications with our Graph APIs.

We are looking for a Senior Applied Scientist who can help us shape the future of intelligent agents at Microsoft. In this role, you will apply your expertise in data science and AI to deliver the right extensibility solutions for agents to interact with Office applications. Your work will influence product strategy and create performant extensibility platform for Agents to build on.

Responsibilities

As a member of the team, you will:

  • Build collaborative relationships with product and business groups to deliver AI-driven impact.
  • Research and implement state-of-the-art using foundation models, prompt engineering, RAG, graphs, etc.
  • Build rapid AI solutions prototypes, take prototypes to production, and iterate deployed solutions to make them better,
  • Champion EVAL driven development and bring the culture of AI-first engineering.
  • Use data to identify gaps in AI quality, uncover insights, build PoC to show the impact.
  • You would work closely with partner teams to make bigger impact by leveraging each other’s work.
  • Design, develop and integrate generative AI solutions using foundation models and more.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 7+ years related experience (e.g., statistics predictive analytics, research).
    • OR Master's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research).
    • OR Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 1+ year(s) related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research).
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in AI/ML, predictive analytics, regression modelling, and research.
  • 4+ years of experience building, deploying, and supporting large scale applications and services.
  • Experience with MLOps, Workflows, including CI/CD, and monitoring.
  • Excellent problem solving, design, coding, and debugging skills
  • Strong cross-group collaboration skills
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks completely and independently.
  • Ability to generate clarity in ambiguous situations.
  • Knowledge of Python and/or R for general coding as well as data analysis is highly valued.
  • Experience with VBA or Office add-in development is a big plus.

Other Requirements: Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research).
    • OR Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research).
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years experience creating publications (e.g., patents, libraries, peer-reviewed academic papers).
  • Experience presenting at conferences or other events in the outside research/industry community as an invited speaker.
  • 3+ years experience conducting research as part of a research program (in academic or industry settings).
  • 1+ year(s) experience developing and deploying live production systems, as part of a product team.
  • 1+ year(s) experience developing and deploying products or systems at multiple points in the product cycle from ideation to shipping.
