The Microsoft AI Monetization team plays a pivotal role in shaping how Microsoft generates value from its AI innovations, particularly through products like Copilot, Bing, Edge, and Microsoft Advertising. We are seeking an accomplished Principal Technical Program Manager to drive critical monetization initiatives for our Commerce Org. This execution-focused role requires a seasoned leader who can orchestrate complex, cross-organizational programs involving multiple CVPs, finance partners, product, and engineering teams to unlock new revenue opportunities while delivering exceptional user experiences. You have excellent communication skills, prefer hands-on execution, and desire to work in ambiguous situations that often require 0 to 1 lift. Monetization, consumer or commerce experience is highly valued.
As a Principal Technical Program Manager in Commerce, you will support strategy and lead execution to turn user intent into trusted commercial outcomes. Commerce is evolving from transactions and billing systems into an orchestration layer where agents can discover businesses, negotiate and complete commercial actions, and measure outcomes end to end. You will drive initiatives that make businesses invocable and agentready, spanning discovery, business verification, transaction flows, and outcome telemetry, while delivering reliable, compliant, and scalable commerce experiences across surfaces and scenarios.

Responsibilities
Technical Program Leadership & Strategic Execution
Own and drive complex technical programs across the core phases of initiation, planning, execution, monitoring & control, closure, and change management
Translate business and product vision into actionable plans, driving execution and accountability in partnership with engineering, product, UX, data science, and business teams, including initiatives that turn user intent into trusted commercial outcomes
Lead agile execution across sprints, backlogs, and milestones with a results oriented style, ensuring operational rigor, delivery discipline, and execution predictability across global, distributed teams.
Strategic Leadership & Risk Management
Define program vision, support strategy, and drive execution plans in collaboration with crossfunctional teams, supporting Commerce as it evolves into an orchestration layer across experiences
Identify, evaluate, and mitigate project and program risks, providing datadriven recommendations to stakeholders
Manage dependencies and ensure timely delivery of program milestones across interconnected systems and partners
Cross Functional Collaboration
Collaborate across areas to gather and prioritize requirements, scope engagements, and align resources with commitments
Partner and influence engineering, product, UX, data science, and business teams to deliver complex technical solutions across surfaces and scenarios
Success Metrics & Implementation Leadership
Define and monitor key metrics (e.g., latency, throughput, quality scores, revenue impact) in partnership with cross-functional teams to guide program priorities and evaluate success
Develop success criteria and build relationships to drive implementation across highly complex, cross-functional initiatives
Executive Communication & Reporting
Provide program updates and risks to leadership, translating complex issues into actionable, business-aligned narratives
Establish clear visibility into progress, priorities, and KPIs, ensuring Leadership Team and partner teams are informed and aligned
Communicate effectively across technical and executive audiences
Culture & Values

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree AND 6+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development
- OR equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
Additional or Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree AND 12+ years experience engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development
- OR equivalent experience.
- 8+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
- 1+ year(s) of experience reading and/or writing code (e.g., sample documentation, product demos)
- 4+ years of hands-on experience in monetization, advertising, or commerce in a technical or program management capacity (e.g., ads platforms, search monetization, e-commerce, marketplace dynamics or building cross-platform user experiences)
- Demonstrated success influencing and collaborating with executive leadership (VP/CVP level), with ability to communicate effectively across technical and business audiences
- Strong program management fundamentals: roadmap planning, dependency management, risk mitigation, stakeholder communication, and execution tracking
- Experience in Monetization, Commerce, or consumer-facing platforms
- Background supporting consumer or business experiences at scale, across web, mobile, or AI-driven surfaces
- Exposure to agentic or automation-driven systems, such as orchestration layers, intelligent workflows, or systems that translate user intent into actions or outcomes

Technical Program Management IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
