The Role: The Surface Product Marketing team is seeking a Product Marketing Manager (PMM). This role is responsible for shaping short-term and long term product strategy, guiding product launches, and translating innovation into compelling customer value. This is a highly visible role at the intersection of product, engineering, design, and go to market. You will help set the narrative for Surface products influencing how devices are conceived, positioned, and introduced to the world. The ideal candidate brings previous product marketing experience marketing premium devices, deep customer obsession, AI fluency, and the ability to articulate a bold, defensible point of view about customer needs. Responsibilities
Product Strategy • Define and evolve Surface product strategy across form factors, operating systems and experiences. • Identify opportunities driven by shifts in customer behavior, market insights, and AI powered scenarios. • Partner closely with product management, engineering, and design to influence product direction early, ensuring customer value is built into the roadmap. Product Storytelling • Develop customer centric value propositions, positioning frameworks, and reasons-to-buy that translate complex technology into clear, differentiated benefits. • Acts as a strong customer advocate, ensuring technical decisions and narratives remain grounded in real customer needs, use cases, and end to end experiences. Technical Fluency & Customer Advocacy • Demonstrates strong technical understanding across hardware, software, silicon, and AI platforms, with the ability to quickly grasp complex system level concepts and architectural tradeoffs. • Brings genuine enthusiasm for technology and innovation, staying current on emerging platforms, AI advancements, and industry trends that shape Surface experiences. Launch Excellence & Readiness • Lead end to end readiness for high impact Surface launches, including core narratives, positioning, claims and specs. • Drive alignment across integrated marketing, sales, and field stakeholders to deliver confident, cohesive launches. Cross Functional Leadership • Serve as a connective force between engineering, design, product management, marketing, and ecosystem partners. • Partner across the Microsoft ecosystem to tell a differentiated role in the broader platform story. Ecosystem & Experience Expansion • Identify opportunities to extend Surface value across consumer and commercial segments. • Help build experiences that feel cohesive, intentional, and uniquely Surface.
Qualifications
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in a product marketing role, with a focus on technology devices and services. Tablet and Laptop experience is preferred. • Collaboration: Excellent cross-functional collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with sales, engineering, and other internal teams. • Customer Focus: Passion for enhancing customer engagement and driving brand advocacy through innovative marketing strategies. • Proven experience in leading marketing teams and executing go-to-market strategies. • Ability to deep dive into specific business areas or customer experiences and insights and develop recommendations for optimizations and new opportunities • Influence up, across teams, and effectively make decisions at all levels. • Manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks effectively. • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. • Knowledge of market and industry trends, as well as customer feedback and product metrics. • Project/vendor management experience. • Experience working in a large, global organization with a disparate group of stakeholders and partnering with marketing teams, data analysts and regional field leaders.

Product Marketing IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $106,400 - $203,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $137,600 - $222,600 per year.
