Overview

Windows Cloud Experiences (WCX) is developing a best-in-class virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) solution to enable millions of customers to work with physical and virtual PCs. WCX is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for the Windows 365 and Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) organization, which is recognized as a leader in the Gartner Magic Quadrant™ for Desktop as a Service (DaaS) for last 3 years. With the momentum from customers transitioning to cloud-based solutions, Windows 365 and AVD have become a billion-dollar business and continue to experience rapid growth. At its core, W365 and AVD provide customers with a modern, elastic, cloud-based Windows experience that feels like local.

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer who’s excited to explore new technologies, write elegant and robust code, and drive engineering excellence across the stack to join the team that builds key technologies for our data platform infrastructure.

In this role, you’ll contribute to rapid, iterative releases and have the opportunity to innovate across multiple areas of our product, from infrastructure to data engineering and operations.

Responsibilities

As a Senior Software Engineer in our team, you will get an amazing opportunity to contribute to both business and technology. You will be a key member of our engineering team, drive full end to end engineering cycle of critical scenario, collaborate with internal partner teams and plan, design, implement and live site support with high quality,

In this role you will:

  • Architect scalable, low-latency systems/data pipelines for ingesting, processing, and serving personalized signals.
  • Design, build, and maintain robust pipelines for telemetry, product usage, and experimentation data.
  • Own orchestration, monitoring, and DevOps for critical data workflows.
  • Design data models and APIs that enable Copilot to reason about user context, preferences, and history
  • Build real-time and batch personalization engines that adapt Copilot’s behavior.
  • Collaborate with privacy, security, and responsible AI teams to ensure personalization is safe, transparent, and user-controlled
  • Optimize for performance, reliability, and cost across diverse workloads and geographies.
  • Ship high-quality, well-tested, secure, and maintainable code.
  • Find a path to get things done despite roadblocks to get your work into the hands of users quickly and iteratively.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Excellent technical design skills and proven ability to drive large scale system designs for commercial projects or products.
  • Experience and involvement with DevOps.
  • Fluent English communication skill.

Other Requirements: Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience building scalable services and infrastructure on top of cloud infrastructure like Azure, AWS, or GCP.
  • Experience with large scale data systems.
  • Ambitious, self-motivated.
  • Agile, can-do attitude and great at dealing with ambiguity.
  • Strong coding, debugging and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong knowledge of object-oriented programming language paradigms.
  • Keen interest in mentoring early in career engineers.
  • Ability to generate clarity in ambiguous situations.
  • Ability to quickly ramp up, understand complex problems, and create solutions across many products.
  • Great communication skills to collaborate cross-group and work effectively within the team.
  • Expertise in developing large scale services.
  • Experience monitoring system performance, diagnosing and resolving issues, and implementing improvements to ensure reliability and a seamless user experience.
