Senior Applied Scientist

Responsibilities
- We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Applied Scientist to build, deploy, and optimize the next generation of AI‑powered capabilities across SharePoint and M365.
- You will work across massive datasets, partner with product and engineering teams, and shape algorithms that power productivity for hundreds of millions of users.
- Build models and featurization pipelines, enable feedback loop.
- Leverage synthetic and user-generated data to continuously improve prompt, finetune models.
- Prototyping new approaches and developing new algorithms, ML techniques that include deep learning, unsupervised ML and privacy preserving data mining techniques.
- Staying current on technology trends and scientific developments in relevant areas inside and outside of the company, including attending academic and industrial conferences.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
- Experience in building cutting-edge machine learning models, including transformers, generative AI, reinforcement learning, and large language models (LLMs).
- Proficiency in Python and modern ML stack; strong fundamentals in data structures/algorithms.
- Experience in:
- Prompt engineering.
- Finetuning and SLM optimization.
- Evaluation frameworks for LLM quality, utility, latency, and cost.
- RAG, agentic workflows, and multi-turn dialogue systems.
- Experience building online ML systems (data pipelines, feature stores, service integration) and running A/B experiments.
- Proven ability to partner across product/engineering and communicate results clearly.
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
