Overview
The Fixed Asset and Lease Accounting Team is part of Microsoft’s Corporate Accounting organization. The team is responsible for the accounting, analysis, and reporting of all fixed asset and lease transactions in the Company’s 10Q and 10K in accordance with ASC 350, 360, and 842 and supporting compliance with the Company’s IFRS 16 reporting requirements. The team partners closely with accounting and finance teams supporting the design, build, and operation of cloud data centers and offices worldwide, accounting for fixed assets and leases covering a broad business scope, including data centers, offices, and server and networking equipment. As the supported businesses grow, the team continues to focus on process improvement, leveraging technology where appropriate. This individual contributor role will be primarily responsible for lease accounting, asset retirement obligations, and leasehold improvements.


Responsibilities
  • Prepares and reviews lease accounting records in compliance with accounting policies and guidelines. Interprets reports and records for managers and stakeholders.
  • Investigates and resolves business partner inquiries, accounting variances, and other data anomalies. Implements improvements to accounting execution processes.
  • Prepares lease‑related inputs for financial statements and drafts disclosures for regulatory accounting filings.
  • Researches accounting standards and drafts guidelines and policies to align with those standards.
  • Assists with process improvement efforts by collecting and reviewing business partner and team feedback and incorporating relevant industry practices.
  • Implements process improvements to increase efficiency, accuracy, and consistency.
  • Reviews controls and related documentation and applies them to newly created reports to support compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Sarbanes‑Oxley Act (SOX) requirements.
  • Assists with the risk assessment process and reviews supporting documentation.


Qualifications

Required/minimum qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Business, Accounting /Finance, or related field AND 1+ year(s) accounting or finance experience OR
    • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting /Finance, or related field AND 2+ years accounting or finance experience OR equivalent experience.
Additional or preferred qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Business, Accounting /Finance, or related field AND 3+ years accounting or finance experience OR
    • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting /Finance, or related field AND 5+ years accounting or finance experience OR equivalent experience.
  • Professional accounting certification such as CPA or equivalent.
  • 1+ years of experience in lease accounting, administration, analysis, and controls for multinational companies transacting in multiple currencies.
  • 1+ years of experience with applications such as Excel and Power BI.
  • 1+ years of experience with large‑scale ERP systems (e.g., SAP).
  • 1+ years of experience with lease accounting and administration tools such as CoStar and TRIRIGA.
  • 1+ years of experience analyzing detailed information and executing tasks through completion.
  • 1+ years of experience assessing issues, prioritizing work, and defining an appropriate course of action in evolving areas.


Accounting IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $76,800 - $151,900 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $100,800 - $168,000 per year.
