The Commercial Products and Infrastructure (CPI) organization is responsible for Microsoft cloud and AI capacity planning, margin management, and disciplined resource allocation across Microsoft’s portfolio. Within CPI, the Resource Investment Strategy finance team partners with engineering leaders to help ensure that resources supporting approximately $20B in investments and ~100K engineering FTEs are aligned to strategic engineering priorities.
There is an opening for a Senior Finance Manager to join the Experiences + Devices (E+D) Engineering finance team. This role includes responsibilities such as financial modeling and business analysis, partnering with engineering leaders on resource allocation decisions, and the development and ownership of efficient financial processes. The role requires the ability to operate as a systems thinker, apply structured analysis, and navigate ambiguity and complexity while supporting engineering leaders as a finance partner.
This role provides exposure to senior leadership and supports expense management and resource allocation decisions by aligning investments and costs with prioritized engineering product roadmaps.
Responsibilities
- Engineering Partnership: Provide strategic finance leadership to Engineering leaders to support operating leverage through resource allocation and investment optimization by providing visibility into the current resource landscape, analyzing macro‑level results, and applying systems thinking to identify and recommend decision‑making levers.
- Resource Analysis: Builds a cohesive narrative by incorporating business insights from resource allocation and workforce planning, and by understanding the relationship between resource allocation and overall financial performance. Analyzes results against plan and forecast, monitors trends, and evaluates key levers to support ongoing business and finance rhythms.
- Business Health: Partner across Engineering to support process effectiveness and regularly assess portfolio health by reviewing key drivers to identify opportunities, risks, and tradeoffs. Ensure resources and investments remain aligned with business strategy, product engineering roadmaps, and company priorities.
Qualifications
Required/minimum qualifications
- Master's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Data Science or related field AND 2+ years experience in financial analysis, accounting, controllership or finance, or related field OR
- Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Data Science or related field AND 4+ years experience in financial analysis, accounting, controllership or finance, or related field OR equivalent experience.
- Masters Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Data Science or related field AND 6+ years of post-graduate financial analysis, accounting, controllership, or finance work experience OR
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Data Science or related field AND 8+ years of post-graduate financial analysis, accounting, controllership or finance work experience OR equivalent experience.
- 1+ year(s) experience in multinationals with multi-product/multi-segment finance roles.
- 1+ year(s) work experience in matrix-based organization.
- 1+ year(s) work experience in the technology or software industry.
Financial Analysis IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $96,500 - $188,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $123,500 - $206,400 per year.
