You’ll help shape the AI‑assisted Person View, a dynamic experience that brings together what matters most about your collaborators—recent conversations, shared documents, meetings, and relevant personal context—into a single intelligent, actionable space. This work sits at the center of Copilot’s people intelligence and is used by millions of users across Outlook, Teams, Copilot, and more.
You’ll work on:
- Declarative agent architectures that power Copilot’s understanding of people and relationships
- Prompt grounding and memory systems that personalize responses and enable proactive preparation
- Backend services that surface real‑time, high‑quality insights from across Microsoft 365
- UX innovations that blend model‑forward intelligence with rich, intuitive UI experiences

Responsibilities
- Build scalable, privacy-aware features for the People Agent across web and native surfaces.
- Collaborate with PMs, Designers, and Researchers to deliver user-centric scenarios.
- Contribute to Declarative Agent frameworks and runtime systems like our Middle Tier, Copilot Backend, and Search.
- Build reusable components in our monorepo.
- Develop and refine our hero scenarios, ensuring consistent, high prompt quality through offline and online evaluations.
- Partner with multiple organizations to extend agentic capabilities into core Copilot capabilities.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
- Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
- Experience in full-stack development (React, TypeScript, Node.js, C#, Azure, Graph APIs).
- Ability to work across disciplines and ship high-quality features in agile environments.
- Solid understanding of agentic architectures and conversational UX.
- Experience with declarative frameworks and prompt engineering.
- Background in AI/ML, especially LLM integration and prompt quality evaluation.
- Experience building or integrating with Copilot or similar conversational platforms.
Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.
