Microsoft’s Xbox Hardware teams consist of progressive, diverse, and exceptionally creative professionals who design, test and manufacture some of the best-loved gaming and entertainment devices in the world. Our teams ship tens of millions of Xbox console and accessory products every year.

The Xbox Mechanical Engineering Team has an immediate opportunity for an experienced Senior Plastics Injection Mold Tooling Engineer in Suzhou, China. This position is responsible for the development, qualification and implementation of all mechanical tooling and manufacturing process technologies required to deliver the right scalable solution at the right cost on time. The correct individual will bring an open mindset, challenge the status quo with regards to traditional vs. emerging technologies and utilize a logical and disciplined approach to evaluate and select the correct set of solutions.

The candidate will drive alignment between design, material and process selection and will own seamless integration of these processes into the overall process flow. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in consumer electronics product and tooling development with Asian suppliers, tooling material selection, resin selection and qualification, two and three shot molding, high volume manufacturing, secondary processes, DOE experience and the ability to run multiple programs in parallel with excellent communication and collaboration skills. Candidate must demonstrate an established record of leadership in a Technology Development Role.



Responsibilities

Candidate to be able to demonstrate experience and success in the following areas of responsibility:

Mechanical Design

  • Participate and advise in part design reviews with ME and ID
  • Participate in tolerance analysis and tolerance studies to support system level RSS assembly requirements
  • Research and identify new materials, manufacturing technologies and finish options
  • Inform estimations of prototype and production manufacturing costs - tooling, secondary assembly, secondary finishing and piece part
  • Participate in supplier audits and final supplier selection

Prototype/Development

  • Write prototype/development tooling RFQs - plastic and metal
  • Write and keep master tooling schedule updated
  • Assign asset tracking numbers
  • Review DFM from supplier
  • Review gating and approve MoldFlow and Mold Warp analysis
  • Review and approve prototype/development tool designs
  • Review and approve tooling maintenance procedures
  • Track suppliers weekly build progress
  • Participate in T1 sample trials.
  • Direct tooling modifications
  • Approve TF parts
  • Approve FAI reports
  • Approve PPAP reports
  • Back-up and store all prototype/development tool designs, secondary fixture designs, FAI reports and PPAP reports
  • Direct and follow tooling ECN activities

Production

  • Write production tooling RFQs - plastic and metal
  • Write and keep master tooling schedule updated
  • Assign asset tracking numbers
  • Review DFM from supplier
  • Review gating and approve MoldFlow and Mold Warp analysis
  • Review and approve production tool designs
  • Review and approve tooling maintenance procedures
  • Track suppliers weekly build progress
  • Participate in T1 sample trials.
  • Direct tooling modifications
  • Approve TF parts
  • Approve FAI reports
  • Approve PPAP reports
  • Back-up and store all production tool designs, secondary fixture designs, FAI reports and PPAP reports
  • Ensure Golden and Limit Samples are signed-off and that the supplier and Microsoft has a minimum of one set
  • Review and store weekly tooling maintenance reports


Qualifications

Required/minimum qualifications

Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering, or related field OR Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years related technical engineering experience OR Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years related technical engineering experience OR equivalent experience.Related technical experience focus on mold design/mold making and plastic injection moldingCompetency in MS office software applications, and 2D/3D solid modeling CAD applications

Additional or preferred qualifications

Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years related technical engineering experience OR Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years related technical engineering experience OR Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 8+ years related technical engineering experience OR equivalent experience.Related technical experience also include metal tooling processes (i.e. stamping, die casting, etc)Competency in CREO 3D solid modeling CAD application.
