We are looking for a passionate, detail-oriented Senior UX Engineer who can meticulously craft our collective vision through code, while being an influential liaison between the UX and Engineering teams to up-level our quality across the organization—building consistent, intuitive, and accessible experiences, leveraging modern aesthetics and the latest generative AI technology. We are seeking a Senior Prototype Technologist who will:

  • Develop and maintain functional prototypes that fully leverage Microsoft’s latest LLMs and generative AI capabilities.
  • Act as a bridge between Design, Software Engineering, and AI Science teams, ensuring seamless integration of UX concepts with technical feasibility.
  • Rapidly iterate on interaction models, validating hypotheses through hands-on prototyping and user testing.
  • Contribute to design systems and component libraries optimized for conversational and agentic experiences.

Responsibilities
  • Transform Figma designs into production-ready AI-first code, enabling our teams to deliver modern, consistent interfaces faster.
  • Partner with AI scientists to integrate model outputs into UX prototypes, ensuring performance and usability.
  • Provide technical guidance on feasibility, scalability, and accessibility for new UX patterns.
  • Document and share best practices for prototyping AI-driven experiences within Microsoft’s ecosystem.
  • Collaborate across disciplines to educate others on design and implementation tradeoffs, proactively identifying potential risks and developing solutions for optimal outcomes.
  • Champion accessibility, performance, and reusability, making every design system component robust and future-proof.
  • Shape the future of our design system by contributing to AI-driven tooling, open-source initiatives, while building automation to enhance scalability, maintainability, and forward-thinking innovation.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Graphic Design, Product Design, Visual Design, Human Computer Interaction, or related field AND 3+ years experience working in product or service design and/or shipping production code
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Graphic Design, Product Design, Visual Design, Human Computer Interaction, or related field AND 4+ years experience working in product or service design and/or shipping production code
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Figma expertise and deep understanding of Microsoft's product ecosystem and current agent building tools.

Other Requirements: Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Graphic Design, Product Design, Visual Design, Human Computer Interaction, or related field AND 3+ years experience working in product or service design and/or shipping production code
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Graphic Design, Product Design, Visual Design, Human Computer Interaction, or related field AND 5+ years experience working in product or service design and/or shipping production code
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years experience shipping production-ready code as a result of a collaborative process.

UX Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.
