Overview

Microsoft Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO&I) is the team behind the cloud. Within CO&I, the Global Datacenter Engineering (GDCE) team is responsible for delivering core datacenter infrastructure for Microsoft’s cloud business. The MS portfolio consists of complex, multi-disciplinary, large scale, multi-year datacenter construction and lease projects. Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 6+ years' experience in engineering, technical program management, OR equivalent experience.
  • 1+ years people management experience.
  • 3+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
  • High level of proficiency and technical understanding of mission critical environments on a multidisciplinary level
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong teamwork spirit in a diverse and inclusive environment.
  • Able to work with other technical and non-technical groups in a fast-paced environment.

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 12+ years' experience engineering, technical program management, OR equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years people management experience.
  • 8+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
  • 10 years’ experience in mission critical or hi-tech industry such as datacenters, largescale manufacturing, pharmaceutical, or oil gas industry, with proven track record in design and/or project/program management capacity.
  • Knowledge of lease contracts and remedies.
  • An understanding of datacenter lease market in region would be highly desirable.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities

The Datacenter Engineering Lease Director will be part of a team responsible for the delivery of leased datacenters in the APAC region. The Lease Director will oversee the technical alignment between Microsoft Requirements and our lessor's designs, manage escalations, schedule meetings and close gaps in information as the primary point of contact between internal and external parties. They will work closely with regional engineering peers, construction, site acquisition and the operations teams. The Lease Director will manage a team of Project Managers and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to ensure information received meets each discipline’s standards for lease review by the appropriate discipline and will provide program level support. The Lease Director will have the skillset to lead a team of Engineers, report on health of the program based on metrics, manage external AE Contracts, and coordinate with internal team stakeholders and vendors.

This position will support the growth of our Datacenter Lease portfolio in the region, manage the review of lease designs for technical compliance with Microsoft’s requirements including layout, power, cooling, telecom, and controls infrastructure, and support design feasibility for lease retrofits.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Govern technical compliance with Microsoft’s requirement through review of lease provider’s design documents
  • Lead a team of project managers, architects, engineers and designers responsible for evaluating design compliance
  • Provides expertise to collect performance metrics, monitor and report on progress
  • Operate portfolio information tools and manage document repository
  • Provide expertise to help teams define multiple program goals and prioritization for multiple projects or functional areas they own
  • Drive employee growth and development, executing projects, and managing performance.
  • Consult with the relevant internal engineering/architectural SMEs on technical matters as appropriate
  • Provide technical support to the lease site acquisition team on design-related items post contract execution and any other stage of the lease process as required.
  • Evaluate and grade lease providers engagement, documentation and engineering staff responsiveness
  • Evaluate and grade any external engineering and architectural firms
