Overview
The Azure Networking Team is growing and we’re looking for a creative and diligent engineer who can combine networking experience with software development fundamentals to help build the world’s best private backbone network and Software Defined Networking (SDN) platform. We’re passionate about automating every facet of the network to converge on a self-growing, self-healing network. Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 2+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation.
- OR Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 1+ year(s) technical experience in network design, development, and automation.
- OR equivalent experience.
- 2+ years of experience with network infrastructure, including routing, switching, Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), and network troubleshooting, with knowdge of network protocols such as Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), Intermediate System to Intermediate System (ISIS), Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) etc.
- 1+ years experience in network migrations, network platform onboarding, and operational troubleshooting in production environments.
Other Requirements:
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Additional or Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 5+ years technical experience in network design, development, and automation.
- OR Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 3+ year(s) technical experience in network design, development, and automation.
- OR Doctorate Degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- OR equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of experience with network infrastructure, including routing, switching, VPNs, and network troubleshooting.
- Experience with automation or scripting using Python, Ansible, or similar tools.
- Working knowledge of SDN, load balancers and network security best practices.
Cloud Network Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $100,600 - $199,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $131,400 - $215,400 per year.

Responsibilities
- Focusing on the Express Route and Global backbone Networks, and working closely with partner teams in Azure Networking, you’ll be a critical part designing and developing automation and large-scale services that drive our network to autonomy. This will include owning components from design through to deployment and operations.
- When issues arise, you troubleshoot live site issues to discover and drive solutions with minimal or no disruption to customers.
- You perform testing and validation of network devices, and demonstrate some knowledge of data. You know what data is needed and how to find new or missing data. You provide instructions to the data center on how to repair and maintain physical network hardware, and take notes during incidents.
- In addition, you participate in postmortem and root-cause analysis processes to continuously improve network reliability. You support innovation and cost management by developing new ideas for systems and tools that meet customer and/or business needs.
- You proactively share information across disciplines within your feature team in a timely manner with an appropriate level of detail that is tailored to your audience.
- You provide feedback and some mentorship to other engineers, while also proactively seeking mentorship and feedback from others.
