Overview
As a Principal Group Engineering Manager - M365 Copilot App, you will lead a team to develop and improve the Copilot application across Windows, Mac, and Web platforms. You will guide engineering managers in architectural decisions and support your team in making effective technical choices that balance innovation and platform stability. You will work closely with your Engineering Managers and Product counterparts to take ideas through design, implementation, validation, and release. You will plan investments for your organization, assign work to teams, and help them manage execution of projects. You will help foster a fast paced, collaborative environment to design, prototype, implement, and ship features. You will partner across multiple product and platform teams in Microsoft and define reusable architectural patterns and techniques that enable consistent and intelligent user experiences at scale. You will mentor engineers and foster a culture of technical knowledge in architecture, performance profiling, and cross-platform design systems. You will attract and hire top engineering talent. You will provide engineering leadership to the team in taking on the technical complexities inherent in building and delivering a consumer-grade application that powers cross-platform AI experiences.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Swift, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.

- 6+ years experience managing multiple teams, developing engineering leaders, and hiring top engineers.
- 6+ years experience developing, shipping, and maintaining one or more large scale Windows, Mac, or Web applications.
- 6+ years experience making technical decisions, planning and executing projects, and delivering results.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Swift or Python
- OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 15+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Swift or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
Software Engineering M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $163,000 - $296,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $220,800 - $331,200 per year.

Responsibilities
- Oversees partnership with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project manager, technical lead) to determine user requirements within and across teams for multiple solutions or product lines.
- Oversees teams and provides technical leadership for identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for a product, application, service, or platform.
- Optimizes, debugs, refactors, and reuses code to improve performance and maintainability, effectiveness, and return on investment.
- Oversees teams to drive multiple group project plans, release plans, and work items in coordination with appropriate stakeholders across products.
- Leads the resolution of complex site incidents and directs the work of other engineers across product lines.
Sets new standards, ensures products are developed and scaled to customer needs, applies methods to meet performance goals, and is accountable for any product that do not meet expectations.
