Overview
As a Principal Software Engineer in the ES365 (Microsoft 365 Engineering Systems) team, you will own the tools that make up the end-to-end developer experience in Office and Copilot from source control and check-in experience to build, validation, and deployment automation, and we’re making big, bold changes – for the better! We’re making it easy to build and ship apps across platforms and endpoints, and we’re moving away from proprietary, internal-only tools onto “one Microsoft” investments, open source, and industry standard tools. This is an exciting time as we seek to re-invent productivity leveraging the power of AI universally. This opportunity will allow you to span a wide range of front-end and back-end technologies including web application development, cli development, back-end services, machine learning, managed code, cross-platform, cloud services, and more.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
- 5+ years experience building highly available distributed systems at scale.
- 2+ years experience architecting and delivering distributed cloud services.
- Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
- Experience working across disciplines, groups, and teams.
- Experience with Azure.
- Experience working with and customizing JavaScript toolchain.
Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.

Responsibilities
- Work with engineers, product managers, designers, and partner teams to deliver a set of features with the right overall design and architecture.
- Provide mentorship and coaching to engineers in, and beyond, your team.
- Own and deliver complete features across the development lifecycle, including design, architecture, implementation, testability, debugging, shipping, and servicing.
- Write and review clean, well-thought-out code with an emphasis on quality, performance, simplicity, durability, scalability, and maintainability.
