Overview

Come build community, explore your passions, and do your best work at Microsoft with thousands of University interns from every corner of the world. This opportunity will allow you to bring your aspirations, talent, potential—and excitement for the journey ahead.

The Azure Data Analytics group, is at the forefront of building Microsoft's next-generation data platforms—including Microsoft Fabric, Synapse Analytics, and Power BI. The team focuses on delivering scalable, lakehouse-native, serverless data warehousing and advanced analytics solutions that empower customers to unlock real-time insights and make intelligent decisions. Interns joining this group will gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge technologies in big data, cloud infrastructure, and AI-driven analytics, all while contributing to products that shape the future of data at scale

As a Software Engineering Intern on the Azure Data Analytics team, you’ll work on the cutting edge of query execution and performance optimization. This team powers the core of Microsoft Fabric, a unified analytics SaaS platform that integrates data warehousing, Spark-based engineering, and lakehouse services. You’ll contribute to building high-performance SQL and Spark runtimes and support massive-scale infrastructure like Cosmos Analytics and open-source workloads via HDInsight.

This role is ideal for candidates with a strong foundation in low-level systems programming. You’ll work directly with technologies such as SIMD assembly, GPU programming, and C++, focusing on maximizing memory bandwidth and execution efficiency across diverse hardware architectures. If you’re passionate about how computers work at the deepest levels - from CPU to GPU - and excited to push the boundaries of performance, this is the internship for you.
