The Excel team seeks a Principal Software Engineer Manager to lead Rich Data Services, which deliver real-time stock data and Geography Rich Entities in Excel. These core services drive product value. Responsibilities include maintaining compliance, performance, scalability, and top-tier reliability and security. The role also requires an AI-driven approach to improve and innovate these services.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years people management experience.
  • 6+ years experience designing and debugging complex applications or services.
  • 6+ years experience shipping quality software products.

Other Requirements:


Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience managing services, or an eagerness to learn.
  • Effective communicator with the ability to collaborate across multiple teams.

Software Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.

  • Lead a team of Software Engineers and work with other experienced Software Engineers Managers, Product Managers, Designers and cross-functional teams to deliver quality solutions across platforms (Win32, Web, Mac and Mobile) that ship to hundreds of millions of customers around the world.
  • Design and develop large components with quality, performance, simplicity, durability, scalability, and maintainability.
  • Contribute efforts to collect, classify, and analyze data to be used for decision-making.
  • Work across organizations and directly with partners both in Office and across Microsoft including other engineers and product leaders.
