Within Azure Data, the databases team builds and maintains Microsoft's operational Database systems. We store and manage data in a structured way to enable multitude of applications across various industries. We are on a journey to enable developer friendly, mission-critical, AI enabled operational Databases across relational, non-relational and OSS offerings.
On the Azure SQL Experiences team, we build the essential developer tools that make this possible, and we’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to be at the heart of this mission. You will evolve DacFx, the core engine for database CI/CD and schema evolution, and shape our SQL extensions for VS Code, a go-to tool for developers and DBAs worldwide. You’ll help transform one of the world’s most trusted data platforms into a cloud-native, AI-ready foundation for the next generation of applications.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
- 4+ years of demonstrated experience in designing, building, and shipping high-quality, commercial software.

- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:
- This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Required Qualifications:
- Demonstrated expertise in C# and .NET, with deep experience building systems-level libraries or frameworks.
- Proficiency with T-SQL and a solid understanding of SQL Server fundamentals.
- Proven ability to lead the design and delivery of complex projects with multiple engineers.
- Familiarity with DevOps workflows and cloud data services (e.g., Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Azure SQL).
- Experience with TypeScript/JavaScript and building developer tools (e.g., VS Code extensions, web-based UIs)
Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.

Responsibilities
- Lead the architectural evolution of SQL Server Tools, building modern, cloud-native developer experiences for millions of users.
- Improve performance, reliability, and usability across tools that support critical enterprise workloads.
- Advance DacFx by integrating schema modeling, deployment automation, and CI/CD workflows into VS Code and Visual Studio extensions.
- Deliver new capabilities in DacFx to simplify and scale database CI/CD for cloud developers.
- Collaborate with customers and partner teams to evolve DevOps and database lifecycle automation into real product features.
