Overview

Our PostgreSQL Engineering team is on a mission to redefine the future of cloud-native PostgreSQL by building a modern database platform that delivers continuous availability, high performance, and seamless scalability. We are investing in foundational improvements across core PostgreSQL components, engineering practices, and tooling—spanning automation, observability, and intelligent diagnostics—while embracing both proven techniques and cutting-edge innovations. We are building the next generation of distributed scale-out capabilities for PostgreSQL via Citus as well as seamless data integration solutions to power business analytics and insights thru Microsoft Fabric.

We are looking for Software Engineer II who is passionate and highly motivated to work on researching, solving deep technical problems, and taking on new challenges. In this role you will collaborate with some of the world's leading experts in this area of technology to work on the internals of enterprise class relational database engines, solve hard problems, and build a highly scalable and reliable data service.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

•Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related technical field and significant of software engineering experience with proficiency in one or more programming languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent practical experience.

• Comprehensive technical fundamentals in distributed systems, concurrency, cloud-native architectures, or database internals.

•Solid understanding of algorithms, data structures, and system design principles that influence code quality, performance, and reliability.

•Excellent coding, debugging, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

•Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP, and familiarity with open-source communities.
• Adaptability in fast paced environment, great collaboration and team-player skills
• Collaborating with numerous stakeholders simultaneously across organizational boundaries
• Passion for building outstanding developer experiences and empathy for developer workflows.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the design, development, and improvement of features for Azure Database for PostgreSQL.
• Develop proprietary and open source PostgreSQL extensions and tools.
• Work closely with cross-functional teams to implement solutions that enhance scalability, performance, and reliability.
• Take ownership of challenging technical problems and drive them to resolution.
• Perform thorough performance analysis, optimization, and troubleshooting to ensure a seamless user experience.
• Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in distributed databases and cloud technologies, bringing fresh insights to the team.
• Engage with customers and the open-source community to understand their needs and incorporate valuable feedback into the product.
