Microsoft Threat Intelligence Center (MSTIC) is hiring a Strategic Intelligence Analyst to support our Strategic Longitudinal Analysis Program. Our mission is to produce unparalleled cyber threat intelligence to protect Microsoft and its customers globally. Within this mission, the Strategic Longitudinal Analysis Program addresses a critical need for intelligence tailored to help senior Microsoft leaders manage business risk, shape security strategy, and make policy decisions in the face of ever evolving global cyber threats.
In this role, you will own deep-dive strategic analysis projects that link building block cyber threat intelligence with global business risk. You will wake up excited to tackle big questions – translating observations of complex threat activity into clear executive insight and “so what” assessments. Working largely independently, you will own the end-to-end delivery of strategic intelligence projects, from initial scoping through research, production, and executive reporting. Your work will directly inform and advise senior leaders on high-priority security issues, helping them take strategic actions to reduce business risk.Microsoft Threat Intelligence Center (MSTIC) mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or related field
- OR 5+ years experience in software development lifecycle, large-scale computing, modeling, cybersecurity, and/or anomaly detection.
- 3+ Cybersecurity Knowledge Demonstrated understanding of cyber threat actors, tools, and tactics.
- 2+ proven ability to synthesize complex and large volumes of information into clear, structured, and compelling intelligence narratives.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
- Citizenship & Citizenship Verification: This role will require access to information that is controlled for export under export control regulations, potentially under the U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations or Export Administration Regulations, the EU Dual Use Regulation, and/or other export control regulations. As a condition of employment, the successful candidate will be required to provide either proof of their country of citizenship or proof of their U.S. permanent residency or other protected status (e.g., under 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) for assessment of eligibility to access the export controlled information. To meet this legal requirement, and as a condition of employment, the successful candidate’s citizenship will be verified with a valid passport. Lawful permanent residents, refugees, and asylees may verify status using other documents, where applicable.
- Citizenship & Citizenship Verification: This position requires verification of citizenship due to citizenship-based legal restrictions. Specifically, this position supports United States federal, state, and/or local government agency customers and is subject to certain citizenship-based restrictions where required or permitted by applicable law. To meet this legal requirement, and as a condition of employment, the successful candidate’s citizenship will be verified with a valid passport.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Doctorate in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or related field
- OR 6+ years experience in software development lifecycle, large-scale computing, modeling, cybersecurity, and/or anomaly detection.
- East Asia Geopolitical Expertise: strong understanding of international affairs and geopolitics relative to East Asia. Able to connect cyber incidents to current geopolitical and economic contexts. You regularly follow global events and can assess how nation-state or criminal cyber activity aligns with broader strategic interests. You likely enjoy reading think-tank reports, policy papers, and world history to inform your thinking.
- US Government Security Clearance preferred but not required - Expertise with business intelligence platforms; PowerBI, Tableau, Grafana, etc.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and facilitation skills. - Ability to influence, inspire, and build relationships at all organizational levels.
Security Research IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.

Responsibilities
- Lead Strategic Intelligence Projects: Plan and execute research projects which answer strategic questions posed by senior leaders. This includes defining the key intelligence questions, gathering and analyzing data, making weighted expert judgements (assessments), and producing comprehensive reports.
- Threat Analysis & Synthesis: Collate Microsoft's threat intelligence, relevant external information (open-source reporting, think-tank analyses, geopolitical developments) to create a coherent narratives and assessments of threat actor activities.
- Executive-Level Reporting: Write intelligence products that inform and advise senior executive leaders. - Leverage Advanced Tools & AI: Utilize MSTIC’s internal tools, data platforms, and AI-powered research assistant to accelerate your analysis and production. By leveraging automation and AI, you’ll focus your efforts on high-value analytical thinking rather than rote data gathering.
Cross-Team Collaboration: Collaborate effectively across MSTIC and other internal teams. You’ll interface with Microsoft's threat actor pursuit analysts, regional experts, data scientists, and others to enrich your projects & obtain subject matter expertise, as needed. - Embody our culture and values
