Overview

The Cloud Consoles team at Microsoft is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to lead the development of new partner integrations and help build a next-generation platform for Cloud Shell. This role is ideal for engineers who enjoy designing, leading, and delivering large-scale distributed systems, and who are passionate about taking products from concept to launch.


In your first 60 days, you will ramp up on the team’s architecture, integration patterns, and begin engaging with new partners. By 120 days, you will lead the development of a new partner integration, collaborating across teams to deliver a production-ready solution. Within six months, you will drive technical strategy for partner integrations and platform features, influencing direction and best practices. By the end of your first year, you will be recognized as a technical leader for Cloud Shell integrations and platform development, enabling new scenarios and expanding the platform’s reach.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C#, Go, Java, OR Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 1+ year(s) of technical leadership experience taking products from concept to launch, including:

    • Ownership of the full product lifecycle from ideation through delivery.
  • 1+ year(s) of experience with cloud infrastructure including:

    • Understanding of cloud architecture, application programming interfaces (APIs), authentication mechanisms, and security best practices.
    • Experience with Microsoft Azure, containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes, and automation frameworks is a plus.
  • 1+ year(s) of experience with technical integrations including:
    • Experience working with external partners or third-party integrations.
  • 1+ year(s) of cross-team collaboration demonstrating:

    • Strong problem-solving skills in both independent and collaborative environments.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
    • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science
    • OR related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C#, Go, Java, OR Python
    • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C#, Go, Java, OR Python
    • OR equivalent experience.

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Architect, design, and deliver scalable backend solutions and partner integrations for Cloud Shell on a new platform.
  • Work directly with external partners to understand their requirements, translate them into technical designs, and deliver robust solutions that meet their needs.
  • Lead the end-to-end development lifecycle, from initial concept and requirements gathering to production deployment and ongoing support.
  • Collaborate with product managers, partner engineering teams, and other stakeholders to define integration strategies and platform capabilities.
  • Build APIs, backend services, and automation workflows that enable partners to extend Cloud Shell functionality.
  • Ensure all solutions are secure, reliable, and performant, following best practices for distributed systems and cloud-native development.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a culture of technical excellence and innovation.
