Overview

The Multimodal Intelligence team, part of Microsoft’s Core Artificial Intelligence (CoreAI) organization, empowers developers and applied scientists across the globe to easily integrate AI capabilities—such as processing documents, videos, images, and other file types—into their applications.

We are seeking a Senior Applied Scientist - CoreAI to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a background in Applied Machine Learning, deep expertise in Python programming. Proven success in solving complex challenges in Natural Language Processing, Computer Vision, and Artificial Intelligence is essential. Familiarity with Large Language Models and Agent frameworks is a plus.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related field AND 4+ years related experience (e.g., Deep Learning, Computer Vision, Language Modeling, Statistical Modeling, Information Retrieval, Machine Learning, Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics)
    • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science, or related field AND 3+ years related experience (e.g., Deep Learning, Computer Vision, Language Modeling, Statistical Modeling, Information Retrieval, Machine Learning, Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics)
      • OR Doctorate in Computer Science, or related field AND 1+ year(s) related experience (e.g., Deep Learning, Computer Vision, Language Modeling, Statistical Modeling, Information Retrieval, Machine Learning, Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics)
        • OR equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of industry experience building machine learning products
  • 3+ years of experience in Python

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

  • Master’s or PhD (or in progress) in Computer Science
  • 5+ years of industry experience designing and building machine learning systems and products
  • Hands-on experience with building products using large language models
  • Experience developing agent-based applications using large language models

Applied Sciences IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.

  • Partner with researchers to translate cutting-edge research into scalable, real-world solutions.
  • Engage directly with customers to understand their challenges, resolve issues, and incorporate feedback into product improvements.
