Overview

Microsoft Windows & Devices Group is driving the development of new hardware solutions such as Xbox and Surface that are bringing new and exciting experiences to the user. The Device Analysis and Engineering (DAE) organization is supporting this objective by providing effective Failure Analysis solutions to improve customer experience and drive improvements back into the product development process. DAE mission is to leverage applied science and critical thinking to influence change from materials characterization during technology selection through in-depth failure analysis for complex time sensitive issues.


We are looking for a passionate, high initiative and hardware talent to join us in below areas. This role will be performed in a variety of activities, ranging from DAE lab management, strategy development to hands-on Electrical Failure Analysis. This will provide the best performance/cost options for Microsoft and its hardware products and provide actionable information that drives change and improves quality and reliability.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Requires practical experience in debugging electrical circuits for consumer electronic devices.
  • Deep understanding on electrical subsystems such as display, touch, power sequence, battery, audio, camera, PCB & FPC and signal integrity.
  • Good knowledge of the electrical components such as SoC, PMIC, MCU, etc. and understand the functional blocks and the structure of the integrated circuit (IC) components.
  • More than 2 years of experience in electrical analysis in consumer electronic devices and have strong knowledge in industrial standard interfaces such as PC architecture, power sequence, and the key protocols such as USB-C, I2C, SPI, SPMI, etc. Capable of capturing, decoding and debugging the data stream.
  • Familiar in performing various signal analyzing equipment such as high-resolution oscilloscope, protocol analyzers, Time Domain Reflectometry (TDR), waveform generator etc.
  • Quick learner of Microsoft systems and able to work independently with minimum direct supervision.
  • Excellent logical thinking, problem analyzing & solving skills, and strong ability to drive for problem closure.
  • Demonstrated passion for finding the root cause and sense of urgency.
  • Good interpersonal skill and effective communication which able to express technical concepts in verbal and written English with cross functional teams.
  • Ability to travel and visit Manufacturing facilities and Suppliers.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering or equivalent discipline with 7+ years related work experience.
  • More than 7 years of experience in electrical analysis in consumer electronic devices and have strong knowledge in industrial standard interfaces such as PC architecture, power sequence, and the key protocols such as USB-C, I2C, SPI, SPMI, etc. Capable of capturing, decoding and debugging the data stream.
  • Rich experience in the circuit design or manufacturing of consumer electronic products.
  • Proficient knowledge of electronic components structure and the manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge of product quality management and reliability test strategies is preferred.
  • Able to demonstrate logical thinking in problem-solving.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive electrical analysis for both NPI and Sustaining products to determine the mechanism of a functional failure.
  • Clearly identify the defective component or location at the PCBA level for subsequent physical analysis to establish the cause of the failure.
  • Develop effective containment plans based on recognized failure mechanism with ther functional teams together.
  • Determine liability on critical and challenging issues by engaging with component suppliers to perform FA at the supplier level.
  • Relentless drive root cause analysis and corrective actions for critical issues.
  • Prepare Lesson Learnt / Feed Forward for continuous improvement on device quality for new generation products.
