Overview

Office for the Web is a core component of Microsoft 365, delivering critical connectivity and productivity solutions. Our team, the Web Experiences & Services Team (WEST) is responsible for maintaining a modern, efficient, scalable, and cost-effective platform underlying Office web applications.


As a Product Manager II within the WEST team, you will lead strategic initiatives that leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI) & Machine Learning to improve platform reliability, efficiency, and compliance across Office Online services. This role demands deep technical expertise in service architecture and health monitoring, requiring you to proactively drive improvements in service efficiency—such as cost optimisation, reliability, and availability. You will work closely with engineering teams to strengthen the Office platform’s resilience and operational effectiveness, while also shaping the infrastructure and cloud integration roadmap to deliver robust, high-performing solutions.

Success in this role requires a solid technical background, particularly in service architecture, platform engineering, and web services - to facilitate effective collaboration across engineering teams within the organization. The ideal candidate exhibits a strong commitment to achieving business objectives and maintains a customer/partner-oriented mindset. They possess the ability to clearly communicate complex technical concepts to engineering teams, partners, and stakeholders, and demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of DevOps workflows. Proficiency in build/validation systems and DevOps methodologies is essential for attaining operational excellence.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 2+ years experience in product/service/program management or software development
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Solid technical background in building & maintaining scalable platform & services; with ability to partner well with technical audience like engineers and architects.
  • Have excellent communication skills, proven ability to handle difficult and sensitive situations, cross-group and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to lead programs/ projects and to enable innovation, thirst for continual learning and passion to motivate and grow people.
  • Experience across the complete product cycle, from initial design to execution and release process. Proven ability to drive large scale projects with high collaboration and leadership.
  • Detail oriented and able to rapidly come up to speed on complex technologies and architectures.

Other Requirements:


Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 5+ years experience in product/service/program management or software development
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years experience improving product metrics for a product, feature, or experience in a market (e.g., growing customer base, expanding customer usage, avoiding customer churn).
  • 2+ years experience disrupting a market for a product, feature, or experience (e.g., competitive disruption, taking the place of an established competing product).

  • Build great partnerships with other Microsoft teams to leverage others’ work and build upon a cohesive solution for our developers and partners.
  • Strive to generate clarity and drive alignment across multiple teams, leading to clear and concise deliverables.
  • Build strong partnerships with engineers and partner teams to deliver on the roadmap with great execution excellence.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts to leadership and internal teams through clear and regular communication that establishes trust.
  • Drive measurable impact across service reliability, cost efficiency, and compliance by aligning cross-functional teams and owning feature roadmaps.
  • Champion automation and AI investments to scale operational performance, reduce incident response time, and improve developer productivity.
  • Identify opportunities to integrate AI-driven solutions into platform, and developer workflows to improve reliability & experience.
  • Collaborate with engineering to uphold technical excellence, using data-driven insights to optimize product development and service health.
