We’re seeking a talented and experienced Senior Software Engineer who is passionate about solving and delivering solutions for our customer problems and having a hand in evolving our engineering solutions and strategies for the validation of quality on personal computing devices.

As part of the Surface Post Launch Engineering Design Validation Engineering team, you will be responsible for performing and leading technical debugging and problem isolation activities and designing and implementing automated solutions for validating new and existing features that ship on our products.

You will need to become very familiar with multiple engineering systems and validation methodologies used across a breadth of technology areas such as firmware, power, performance, and kernel mode drivers. You will be required to have collaborative and leadership skills as a team player to work with peers, different technology teams, organizations, external companies and 3rd party engineering partners in order to realize our engineering, business, and customer satisfaction goals.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, PowerShell, Visual Basic, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years experience as a Software Development Engineer, or Test or Validation Engineer, or equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years of experience developing and/or testing products across multiple release cycles in related fields.
  • Professional experience in the development and/or validation of personal computing devices, tables, mobile phones, or other mobile computer devices or accessories, gaming systems, or servers.
  • Experience with developing and executing software testing methodologies, strategies, procedures, tools and metrics.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 7+ years experience as a Software Development Engineer, or Test or Validation Engineer, or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years of experience developing and/or testing products across multiple release cycles in related fields.
  • 7+ years of experience programming or validating using applications or tools developed in C, C++, C#, PowerShell, Python, Visual Basic, Javascript, or similar languages.
  • Experience developing, debugging, and/or validating one or more of the following on Windows operating system: kernel mode device drivers, firmware, UEFI.
  • Experience leading or managing external partner or services companies.
  • Experience with debugging kernel mode drivers or firmware.
  • Experience in gathering and analyzing telemetry data to improve software reliability or performance.

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and modify quality validation plans, procedures, and software tools and programs used to quantify quality metrics.
  • Lead and define the scope of engineering validation coverage and key quality metrics for device driver and firmware releases.
  • Collaborate with PM, Developer, and Quality teams to plan, schedule, and sign-off on engineering releases by assessing risks and making data-driven decisions.
  • Leverage, direct, and evolve external service partners to execute and deliver testing and quality characterizations of device and system driver and firmware updates.
  • Drive the resolution of engineering release blockers by identifying and debugging them.
