As a Senior Software Engineer in Calendar, you will contribute to the development of our next-generation scheduling platform, integrating deeply with substrate APIs, Copilot experiences, and other Outlook services. You’ll help deliver modern and intelligent Microsoft Calendar experiences across Monarch and Teams, accelerating innovation and creating a funnel for premium value through Places and Copilot.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of experience building cloud-native apps or services, preferably using Azure and related tools.
  • 3+ years of experience in solving complex problems and designing scalable systems for high-traffic environments.
  • 3+ years of experience working with distributed systems, APIs (Application Programming Interface), and implementing telemetry for observability.

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience using software development agents / assistants to co-develop.
  • Experience with Microsoft Graph, M365 services, or workplace productivity tools.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML concepts, especially in the context of Copilot or agent-based systems.
  • Exposure to hybrid work scenarios, calendar systems, or workplace coordination platforms.
  • Passion for user experience, product craftsmanship, and solving real-world problems.

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Integrate personal and organizational time/location data into the M365 graph to power Copilot and agent-based assistance.
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and partner teams to define user requirements and deliver intelligent scheduling solutions that support hybrid work coordination.
  • Contribute to the identification of dependencies, and the development of design documents for a product area with little oversight as well as break down larger work items into smaller work items and provides estimation.
  • Act as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) working on-call to monitor system/product feature/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions and gains approval to restore system/product/service for simple problems.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and AI advancements to deliver transformative Copilot experiences that support calendar planning.
  • Design and implement scalable backend services that power Microsoft Calendar experiences across Monarch and Teams, integrating deeply with substrate APIs, Copilot, and Places.
  • Drive architectural decisions and engineering excellence to ensure high reliability, performance, and security in alignment with Microsoft’s Secure Future Initiative (SFI).
  • Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and agile planning processes.
