Overview

Are you passionate about cloud computing, large scale distributed systems engineering problems and working on bleeding edge technology at massive scale?

The Microsoft Azure Storage Engineering team is looking for a Senior Software Engineer - Azure Storage to work on system development and modeling across hardware and software platforms. In this role, you will drive requirements and specifications, analyze system performance, and deliver code and releases for systems that model performance, capacity, and financials for Azure Storage platform systems. You will also shape product vision and business strategy for these tools, ensuring that architecture and implementation meet scalability, reliability, and security needs.


As a part of our team, you will lead multiple areas, including development of internal tools, understanding and diagnosing storage and networking telemetry, and providing inputs that improve reliability through prediction. You will use simulation modeling to assess advanced technology system behavior under varied scenarios and inform capacity decisions. You will work across teams, internal and external, to influence system architecture for improved performance and reliability. You will evaluate hardware acceleration options and security requirements, and design tools that can propose hardware configurations from workload and Service Level Objective (SLO) inputs.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, SQL and Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years experience in system development and debugging, with an emphasis on coding across software layers.
  • 2+ years of experience with Microsoft or comparable large scale industry services, including distributed storage and/or networking.
  • 2+ years of demonstrated analytical skills and sound technical judgment to evaluate options and make informed decisions across performance, cost, and risk; while operating with large amounts of reasonability and autonomy.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, SQL, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 1+ year(s) of experience/knowledge with Azure Data Factory, Cosmos, Kusto, Spark, Kafka or other big-data and telemetry technology stacks.
  • 1+ year(s) of demonstrated design and analytical skills, with a strong bias for engineering excellence at scale; functional knowledge of cloud computing and online services business models, including business, technical, and operational metrics.
  • 1+ year(s) of proficiency in data warehouse principles, architecture, design and its implementation at large scale.
  • 1+ year(s) of experience learning and grasping concepts quickly in a fast-paced environment.

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.

  • Designs and implements code for products, services, or features, reusing existing code where applicable, and sets technical standards for modeling and simulation tools, including the use of agentic software development techniques to automate analysis, experimentation, and diagnostics.
