Overview
As a Mechanical Engineer II, you will have the opportunity to help build world-class hardware with the latest technologies. You will utilize your experience in component design and system integration through fast-paced product development cycles. You will lead mechanical development work, coordinate engineering activities across teams, and engage with offshore suppliers and ODM (Original Design Manufacturer) partners while working with cross-disciplinary teams.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 1+ year(s) related technical engineering experience
- OR Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 2+ years related technical engineering experience
- OR equivalent experience.
- Experience in mechanical design using CAD software.
- Experience designing complex assemblies using various manufacturing techniques (machining, injection molding, metal forming, etc).
- Experience articulating technical concepts to a broad range of stakeholders and audiences.
Preffered Qualifications:
- Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering, or related field OR Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years related technical engineering experience
- OR Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years related technical engineering experience
- OR equivalent experience.
Mechanical Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $100,600 - $199,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $131,400 - $215,400 per year.

Responsibilities
- Design mechanical parts and sub-assemblies for high volume manufacturing in laptops and tablets.
- Work with suppliers and ODM (Original Design Manufacturer) partners to coordinate mechanical engineering activities across teams, oversee progress at the ODM, and verify all that engineering designs are on track to meet design intent and performance requirements.
- Guide the engineering development work within Microsoft, at suppliers, and at the ODM to ensure that all mechanical subsystems remain on track for schedule and cost.
- Communicate team progress to partner teams and management.
- Identify and communicate key program risks and backup plans.
- Document engineering learnings along the way and share those learnings with peers for application to next-gen product development.
