Overview

As part of Microsoft’s Commercial Solution Area (CSA), the Azure Global Black Belt (GBB) Infrastructure Solution Engineer plays a pivotal role in driving digital transformation for our most strategic enterprise customers. This role is specifically focused on Mainframe Migration and Modernisation to Azure, requiring deep technical expertise in legacy systems (e.g., IBM z/OS, AS/400) and their transformation into scalable, cloud-native architectures on Azure.

You will lead technical engagements, remove roadblocks, and influence strategic decisions at the CxO level. You will also contribute to the development of repeatable IPs, reference architectures, and solution accelerators tailored to mainframe workloads.

Qualifications

  • 5–7 years of experience leading large-scale cloud engagements, including infrastructure migration and application modernisation.

  • Mainframe Expertise: Proven experience with IBM mainframe environments, including z/OS, JCL, COBOL, CICS, IMS, DB2, and associated tooling.

  • Azure Migration Tools: Familiarity with Azure Migrate, Azure App Modernization tools, and partner solutions like Micro Focus, TmaxSoft, Raincode, or Astadia.

  • Cloud Adoption Frameworks: Experience applying Microsoft Cloud Adoption Framework or similar methodologies to mainframe scenarios.

  • Executive Presence: Ability to engage and influence senior technical and business stakeholders.

  • Collaborative Leadership: Skilled in orchestrating virtual teams across sales, engineering, and partner ecosystems.

Responsibilities

  • Complex Deals Support: Engage deeply with customers to understand their legacy environments and design Azure-based solutions that meet performance, compliance, and cost-efficiency goals.
  • Advising C-Suite in Customers: Build trusted relationships with CIOs, CTOs, and enterprise architects to align mainframe modernisation with broader digital transformation strategies.
  • Remove Technical Roadblocks: Address challenges related to mainframe integration, data migration, and workload compatibility. Collaborate with engineering and product teams to resolve blockers.
  • Win Over Competitors: Demonstrate Azure’s differentiation in mainframe modernisation compared to AWS Mainframe Modernization and GCP Dual Run.
  • Incubation to Mainstream: Develop and share mainframe-specific solution accelerators, migration playbooks, and automation frameworks.
  • Engineering Feedback Loop: Provide structured feedback from mainframe engagements to influence Azure product development.
  • Knowledge Transfer: Enable field teams and partners through technical briefings and readiness sessions focused on mainframe migration scenarios.
  • Thought Leadership: Publish blogs, whitepapers, and present at industry events on mainframe transformation best practices and customer success stories.
