Our laboratory in Lyngby Denmark is looking for a Senior UHV Hardware Development Engineer to join our team.
The role of a Senior Hardware Development engineer will drive the design, development, and integration of advanced mechatronic systems in a cutting-edge Ultra-High Vacuum (UHV) and semiconductor fabrication environment within the Microsoft Quantum program. Your background in the mechatronic systems design and semiconductor fabrication technologies combined with hands-on experience will enable you to quickly engage in your new role. With your open and determined attitude you will collaborate closely and efficiently with other experts within Microsoft and its supplier network. An innovative and growth mind set approach coupled with strong time and resource management skills will enable you to succeed in this cutting-edge technology environment.
Qualifications
Required qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND significant technical engineering experience OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND solid technical engineering experience OR equivalent experience.
- Proven experience in mechatronic system design, automation, and semiconductor hardware development—ideally within vacuum-based thin film deposition systems such as MBE, ALD, evaporators, sputtering, or e-beam technologies.
- Familiarity with microfabrication and nanofabrication processes and technologies.
- Strong attention to detail and precision to ensure the reliability and performance of electromechanical systems.
Preferred qualifications:
- Strong self-drive and goal orientation, with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Demonstrated experience in developing complex mechatronic systems from concept through to final product.
- Understanding of automated systems and mechatronics used in production or development tools for semiconductor components.
- Familiarity with vacuum system components such as valves, motors, and manipulators.
- Solid grasp of semiconductor fabrication equipment and cleanroom protocols.
- Excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
- Systematic problem-solving capabilities, with a structured approach to technical challenges.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills in English, suitable for international and multidisciplinary environments.
- Proficiency in programming languages and PLC programming for automation and control systems.

Responsibilities
- Lead design and development projects of precision mechatronic systems tailored for UHV and semiconductor applications.
- Collaborate with equipment suppliers and strategic partners to deliver solutions that meet or exceed engineering performance targets.
- Create detailed mechanical and electrical designs, perform tolerance stack-ups, and participate in design reviews.
- Integration of hardware with embedded control systems and automation software. Upkeep and maintenance of the existing Hardware systems.
- Explore and apply emerging technologies and novel materials to enhance system performance and reliability.
- Conduct testing and validation to ensure designs meet programme specifications and operational requirements.
- Prepare clear and comprehensive technical documentation for internal use and external communication.
