This role offers an opportunity to collaborate with seasoned infrastructure and network engineers, as well as product partners, contributing to impactful service delivery and the ongoing evolution of infrastructure engineering and operations. The team is responsible for translating innovative concepts into practical solutions, focusing on AI-driven initiatives and large-scale infrastructure automation that is unique to only a select few companies globally.

The Infrastructure and Engineering Services division within the Microsoft Digital organization is dedicated to delivering essential network and infrastructure services that underpin the Microsoft enterprise. This group is advancing a strategic vision for leveraging AI in future infrastructure engineering and operations. Committed to establishing industry-leading innovations for infrastructure and network engineering as well as operational excellence, the team drives the implementation of infrastructure as code and empowers service engineers through the use of AI agents in service operations.

This position is based at the Microsoft campus and supports 3 days/week work on-site and 2 days/ week work from home.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years of experience as a leader and people manager.
  • 4+ years of experience with cross-team collaboration.
  • Experienced shaping and delivering solutions to enable infrastructure (network & system) management & deployments in an enterprise environment.

Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
  • Citizenship & Citizenship Verification: This position requires verification of U.S citizenship due to citizenship-based legal restrictions. Specifically, this position supports United States federal, state, and/or local United States government agency customers and is subject to certain citizenship-based restrictions where required or permitted by applicable law. To meet this legal requirement, citizenship will be verified via a valid passport.
  • Citizenship & Citizenship Verification: This role will require access to information that is controlled for export under U.S. export control regulations, potentially under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations or the Export Administration Regulations. As a condition of employment, the successful candidate will be required to provide proof of citizenship, for assessment of eligibility to access the export-controlled information. To meet this legal requirement, citizenship will be verified via a valid passport.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 6+ years people management experience.
  • Proven track record of delivering large software products.

Software Engineering M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $163,000 - $296,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $220,800 - $331,200 per year.

  • Work closely across IES functions and disciplines to shape the solutions and make sure they provide value.
  • Evangelize and drive the use of AI and Agents within our IES team and operations.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders to ensure alignment with org prioritization, project goals, and deliverables.
  • Foster a culture of agility, innovation, and customer-focus within the team.
  • Lead and manage a group of software engineering individual contributors and their managers - promoting a culture of ownership and accountability.
  • Guide the group in the design, development, testing, and deployment of high-quality software.
  • Champion strategic frameworks that balance build versus augment existing solutions, ensuring alignment with organizational standards, compliance, and product strategy and consider speed of innovation, cost efficiency and risk while mentoring teams on scalable solution design.
