As we continue to grow our market share, we are faced with many core infrastructure and scale challenges driving a need to build resilient systems while ensuring no customers are impacted throughout the change management lifecycle. The OneDrive and SharePoint team is looking for a Principal Software Engineering Manager to be a part of this journey.
We are looking for a Principal Software Engineering Manager who is passionate about building a team and who puts people and culture at the forefront. Someone who is not afraid to dig into hard engineering problems to improve the core fundamentals of our systems, add critical and exciting new features, revolutionize how our engineers work day-to-day, and try new things like bringing the power of machine learning and statistical analysis at scale to solve these and other problems.
You will have an opportunity to work with peers across the company in Office, Azure, Microsoft365, and Research. You will guide a team of engineers, mentoring them through this journey and providing technical and architectural leadership as we evolve our scalable, distributed service.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of experience with developing large high-volume services, with service-oriented development and cloud-based systems.
- 6+ years of experience with problem solving, design, rapid prototyping, coding, and debugging skills.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proven track record of cross-group/cross-discipline collaboration.
- Ability to thrive in an ambiguous environment.
- Demonstrated experience as a technical lead or people manager.
Software Engineering M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $163,000 - $296,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $220,800 - $331,200 per year.

Responsibilities
- Oversees partnership with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project manager, technical lead) to determine user requirements within and across teams for multiple solutions or product lines.
- Oversees teams and provides technical leadership for identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for a product, application, service, or platform.
- Optimizes, debugs, refactors, and reuses code to improve performance and maintainability, effectiveness, and return on investment (ROI).
- Oversees teams to drive multiple group's project plans, release plans, and work items in coordination with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project managers) across products.
- Leads the resolution of complex site incidents and oversees for Designated Responsible Individuals (DRI) and directs the work of other engineers across product lines.
- Keeps informed of and communicates new standards to ensure that the product development and scaling to customer requirements and applies best practices for meeting scaling needs and performance expectations and holds accountability for products that do not meet expectations.
