Overview

Microsoft Azure Storage is a highly distributed, massively scalable, and ubiquitously accessible cloud storage platform. The xData Processing Unit (xDPU) storage team is focused on bringing up the storage stack on DPU based nodes to provide unmatched performance at the lowest cost.

We are hiring Senior Software Engineer - Azure Storage to join us in the mission of developing and deploying DPU based storage. As a Senior Software Engineer in Azure Storage, you will drive and lead the design, implementation, and optimizations of highly performant and massively scale out storage on DPU hardware.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C or C++
    • OR equivalent experience
  • 4+ years of storage/networking protocol development experience including but not limited to data compression and encryption, log structuring, data integrity, and data management
  • 4+ years of experience in developing performant and massively scalable cloud services and distributed systems
  • 4+ years of technical problem solving and debugging skills

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science OR related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C or C++
    • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C or C++
    • OR equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of Windows and/or Linux Operating System
  • Storage sub systems in Linux or Windows or any major Operating System (OS)
  • Experience with storage/networking protocols like Internet Small Computer Systems Interface (iSCSI), Non-Volatile Memory Express over Fabrics (NVMeoF), Transmission Control Protocol (TCP), Remote Direct Memory Access over Converged Ethernet (RoCE)
  • Proficient with live site maintenance
  • Exemplary verbal and written communications skills (for engagement with both technical and non-technical stakeholders at all levels)
Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a set of features. Begins to leverage a variety of feedback channels to incorporate insights into future designs or solution fixes. Reviews work items to deepen knowledge of product features in partnership with appropriate stakeholders and executes project plans, release plans, and work items.
  • Leads identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for a product, application, service, or platform.
  • Creates and implements code for a product, service, or feature, reusing code as applicable. Writes and learns to create code that is extensible and maintainable. Considers diagnosability, reliability, and maintainability with few defects, and understands when the code is ready to be shared and delivered. Leads by example and mentor others to produce extensible and maintainable code used across products.
  • Leverages subject-matter expertise of cross-product features with appropriate stakeholders to drive multiple group's project plans, release plans, and work items.
  • Holds accountability as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI), mentoring engineers across products/solutions, working on-call to monitor system/product/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions.
  • Proactively seeks new knowledge and adapts to new trends, technical solutions, and patterns that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale and shares knowledge with other engineers.
