Microsoft’s Cloud business is expanding, and the Cloud Supply Chain (CSCP) organization is responsible for enabling the hardware infrastructure underlying this growth including AI! CSCP’s vision is to empower customers to achieve more by delivering Cloud and AI capabilities at scale. Our mission is to deliver the world's computer with an industry-leading supply chain. The CSCP organization is responsible for traditional supply chain functions such as plan, source, make, deliver, but also manages supportability (spares), sustainability, and decommissioning of datacenter assets worldwide. We deliver the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's over 200 online businesses including Bing, MSN, Office 365, Xbox Live, OneDrive and the Microsoft Azure platform for external customers. Our infrastructure is supported by more than 300 datacenters around the world that enable services for more than 1 billion customers in over 90 countries.

The Cloud Sourcing, Spares, Security and Sustainability (CS4) organization within CSCP manages sourcing, strategy, and suppliers to provide cost, flexibility, and supply advantages that enable our org to become a world-class supply chain. Well-defined and executed sourcing and supply chain management ensures reliable, on-time performance and optimized cost, prevents urgent and unplanned investments, and provides accurate and timely information across the supply base and internally across the infrastructure organization. Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 3+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles
    • OR Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 4+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in technical sourcing, business development, field application engineering, technical sales, product architecture, technical product management, or in fields requiring technical & business acumen.

Microsoft Cloud Background Check:

This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 6+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles
    • OR Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 8+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Exposure product development and new product introduction cycles with quality, program management, sourcing, supplier development engineering, process engineering, yield management in operations, and/or equivalent experience.
  • 1+ years' experience in datacenter switch hardware, software management, and services and support
  • Exposure in design, manufacturing process, and test and yield management of component, sub-assembly and network systems.
  • Familiarity with design criteria for component selection and validation, semiconductor manufacturing processes, PCB/A manufacturing process flow, and experience in interconnect failure modes, GD&T and assembly related issues such as pin deformation, latching, semiconductor component and PSU failures.
  • Storytelling and influencing skills with a track record of developing and nurturing key stakeholder relationships.
  • Thrives in a dynamic and fast paced environment

Sourcing Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Strategy: Define and establish Microsoft’s Network Sourcing strategy for datacenter switching technologies to drive long-term goals of Technology Adoption, COS (Continuity of Supply), Cost, Quality, Business Health, and Sustainability, and provide competitive advantages for Microsoft cloud offerings.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Engage early with Microsoft network architects, engineering, NPI, and program/product management teams to establish product performance, quality, and reliability requirements, identify optimization opportunities and drive product solutions around design for availability and TCO.
  • Influence: Provide thought leadership and manage strategic initiatives with internal stakeholders and suppliers to support cloud supply chain objectives and strategies.

Sourcing management:

  • Engage with cross-functional leadership including Network architecture, engineering, quality, and business teams to determine best design solution and supply base to deliver that solution at optimal SC, COS, and cost.
  • Own the switch sourcing process, partnering with product engineering teams on high visibility technology developments and delivery of innovative solutions.
  • Lead industry initiatives and innovate on business models to deliver best in cloud solutions.
  • Define RFI, RFP, RFQ activities and conduct negotiations with suppliers.
  • Manage contracting activities with Legal and ensure contracts reflect appropriate business terms, IP protection, etc.

Cost and operations management

  • Build multi-sourcing strategies to mitigate risk and drive appropriate competition.
  • Identify cost reduction opportunities and drive supplier competition with cost modelling and other sourcing tools.
  • Manage NPI (New Product Introduction) development builds until mature enough to transition to sustaining sourcing team.
  • Support programs through the development phases to ensure continued optimization, parts availability, and contract readiness.
  • Run weekly, monthly, quarter review with team on cost and operations KPIs
  • Lead negotiations for cost improvements.
  • Develop supply chain capacity, flexibility, and agility to meet hyperscale demand.

Manage supplier performance and compliance

  • Create and deliver supplier relationship management strategy.
  • Drive RFQs and supplier selection process through a cross-functional analysis around supplier capabilities.
  • Develop and enable introduction of new suppliers.
  • Oversee compliance with MSFT requirements for security, social responsibility, and payment terms.
  • Ensure suppliers deliver timely corrective actions from business review/audits.
  • Support and meet business cost metrics through the development process.
