Overview

The Windows Fundamentals & Data Team within the Windows Service and Delivery (WSD) organization at Microsoft is hiring a Data Engineer who wants to get their hands on large scale and complex data landscape, with deep knowledge of data architecture and management, and distributed systems, who is interested in working alongside Software Engineers to drive business impact and is passionate about enabling data-driven decision-making across the organization.


As a Data Engineer II, you will work on a team of engineers who move fast and innovate. You will help build optimized data pipelines to scale from hundreds of millions of events per day to billions. If your toolbox includes proficiencies in Big Data, Azure Data Factory, Cloud Data Architecture, Data analytics and reporting, Synapse, Data Warehouse and SQL we would love to apply your data expertise to have real world impact.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Math, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 2+ years' experience in business analytics, data science, data modeling or data engineering work
    • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science, Math, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 1+ years' experience in business analytics, data science, data modeling or data engineering work
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in data engineering with proven coding and debugging skills.
  • 2+ years of experience in writing queries using SQL and KQL.
  • 2+ years of experience with data cloud computing technologies such as – Azure Synapse, Azure Data Factory, SQL, Azure Data Explorer, Power BI (DAX).

Additional Or Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in data engineering with proven coding and debugging skills in C#.
  • 5+ years of experience in developing solutions using Microsoft Power Platform, including Power BI, DAX and Power Automate.
  • Experience with extracting and handling data with REST APIs, messaging and event technologies.
  • Dedication to writing clean, maintainable, and well-documented code with a focus on application quality, performance, scalability and security.
  • Experience building and optimizing large-scale data processing, integration and storage.
  • Analytical skills with a systematic and structured approach to software and data design.
  • Problem solving, design, and implementation skills.

Data Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $100,600 - $199,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $131,400 - $215,400 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Implement scalable and performant data models, data pipelines, data storage, management, batch ingestion and transformation solutions for real-time decisioning, reporting, data collecting, and related functions.
  • Develop application components and services to support data related processes, presentation, and consumption.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to data processing and storage.
  • Contribute to efforts to break down larger work items into smaller work items and provides estimation.
  • Remain current in skills by investing time and effort into staying abreast of latest technologies.
  • Consider testability, monitoring, reliability, performance and maintainability to develop solutions for quality validation and continuous improvement.
  • Use large data sets to provide insight into business and functional issues while improving data reliability, efficiency, and quality.
