Overview
The Windows CoreOS Media team is looking for a Senior Software Engineer who is passionate about graphics and video and is excited to work on cutting edge hardware. We are responsible for all things audio and video related on Windows and beyond! You will be working on operating system code interacting with state-of-the-art graphics and video hardware, helping to define and implement power efficient architectures. You will be a member of an experienced team that is responsible for collaborating with internal and external partners to solve challenging problems. Good understanding of general media concepts is valuable; you should be comfortable working with drivers, user mode, and kernel mode code.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
- 2+ years of experience in CPU, memory, debuggers and device hardware architectures.
- 1+ years of experience with driver programming or direct interaction with drivers.
Other Requirements:
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
- Experience working with hardware queues, interrupt service routines, deferred procedure calls, threading issues, DirectX video acceleration, and codec implementations.
Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.

Responsibilities
- Leads by example within the team by producing extensible and maintainable code.
- Drives identification of dependencies and the development of design documents. For areas of dependency and overlap with other teams or team members, drives coordination and communicates across teams and resolves conflicts between teams.
- Leads discussions for the architecture of products/solutions and creates proposals for architecture.
- Independently creates a clear and articulated plan for testing and assuring quality of solutions and defines success for outcomes of tests.
- Uses debugging tools and examines logs, telemetry, and other methods to verify assumptions through writing, developing code, and after release.
- Maintains communication with key partners across the Microsoft ecosystem of engineers. Acts as a key contact for leadership to ensure alignment with partners' expectations.
