Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree AND 5+ years experience in product management or software development
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Deep technical experience, including the ability to write code and explain complex technical concepts
  • Hands-on experience utilizing AI tools

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Hands-on experience and passion for AI tools
  • Experience building developer tools and platforms
  • Collaboration skills across engineering, design, and data science disciplines
  • Demonstrated ability to drive clarity and execute in fast-paced, ambiguous environments
  • Hands-on experience with VS Code, GitHub, and similar developer tools
  • Public-facing experience representing a product in blogs, videos, conferences, and customer/partner calls
  • Comfortable engaging with developer communities and/or third-party ecosystems

Product Management IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Define and continuously evaluate developer scenarios end-to-end, partnering closely with engineering, data science, and design on delivery of end to end product experiences across Microsoft and GitHub.
  • Build deep developer empathy by writing code and self-hosting VS Code Insiders daily, and maintain zero distance to customers through GitHub issues, social media, interviews, and user studies.
  • Use data to understand product behaviors, improve performance and reliability, and run experiments to drive growth.
  • Partner with the open-source community and extension ecosystem to nurture the healthy community around VS Code.
  • Be the voice of VS Code by delivering technical content for blogs, videos, livestreams, workshops, customer meetings, and conferences born from a deep understanding of industry trends, competitor capabilities, and VS Code strengths.
  • Embed deeply in the AI developer community to stay current on emerging industry trends and the AI developer tools space to inform VS Code’s future investments.
