Overview

Microsoft’s Event Creative Experiences (ECE) Team mission is to design, ideate and architect creative experiences for Microsoft’s business-to-business events, which deliver value to our customers, build brand love and empower audiences to achieve more. We aim to drive operational excellence within the organization and deliver breakthrough creative programming for Microsoft’s flagship event portfolio around the globe.

The ECE portfolio covers events of various sizes and complexities, both in terms of audience size & composition, first party & third party, and delivery methodologies. This role will lead experiences and design throughout ideation, development, production, and execution phases of every assigned project.

As the Director, Experiences, you will manage a team of six Event Experience Leads within the creative team; focused on ideating, designing and architecting experiences and activations for Microsoft’s commercial events such as Ignite, Build, AI Tour and more. You will report directly to the Creative Director, Experiences and Design within the Event Creative Experiences team. This role is pivotal in developing unique, creative, and engaging activations and experiences alongside a team of Creative Directors, tailored for business and technical senior decision-makers. This candidate should thrive on collaboration, curiosity, and a growth-oriented mindset while embracing Microsoft leadership principles.

You will work to drive operational and creative synergy across the event experience leads and their counterparts such as event executive producers and the event production teams. You and your team will bring to life the Creative Directors strategy and vision for Microsoft’s portfolio of events and contribute to out of the box thinking for onsite, online and hybrid experiences. You will analyze experiential performance with internal and 3rd party research agencies, measure effectiveness, provide insights and recommendations to optimize impact and inform key performance. Additionally, you will work closely with the partnerships team and key stakeholders on joint co-marketing initiatives, uncovering and developing new sponsorship opportunities and experiences for Microsoft’s portfolio of events.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years business to business, business to consumer, digital, or experiential/event marketing experience
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years people management experience.
  • Experience working in a large, global organization with 3,000+ employees with a disparate group of stakeholders and partnering with marketing teams, data analysts and regional field leaders.
  • Experience leading a team through the ideation, strategy and execution of experiential events.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Liberal Arts, Performing Arts, or related field AND 10+ years business to business, business to consumer, enterprise technology, digital, or experiential/event marketing experience in the technology industry
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years marketing experience in a large multinational organization or creative/media agency.
  • 5+ years people management experience.

Events M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $130,900 - $251,900 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $165,600 - $272,300 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Co-lead experiences ideation, strategy, design, and execution with creative leadership peers.
  • Guide multidisciplinary teams—including content strategists, designers, and experience leads—by setting clear goals, providing timely feedback, and fostering a culture of innovation, inclusion, and continuous learning.
  • Champion inclusive talent development and promote equitable career growth by conducting regular career check-ins, mentoring, and identifying stretch opportunities, while mitigating bias in performance and talent processes.
  • Ensure operational excellence and creative execution by oversee project workflows, assign resources, and manage timelines and budgets to deliver high-quality, on-brand event experiences that reflect Microsoft’s values and innovation.
  • Foster cross-functional collaboration, strategic alignment and stakeholder engagement and partner with internal teams (e.g., marketing, engineering, , ppublic relations (PR), production, logistics, studios, sponsorships) and external agencies to co-create impactful experiences, interweaving AI, ensuring alignment with brand standards and audience expectation.
  • Translate business priorities into creative strategies alongside a team of Creative Directors, that shape event narratives, content programming, and attendee engagement across in-person, digital, and hybrid formats.
  • Drive operational excellence and rigor within the Event Experiences Team and partnering departments.
