Overview
Microsoft is consolidating the Tier 1 Defense Industrial Base (DIB) to streamline operations and enhance engagement with defense customers into a single Operating Unit (OU) within the US Public Sector Industries team.
The DIB market is complex, with over 350K companies and 80K requiring advanced certified data security. Microsoft's unique regulatory advantage and AI capabilities position it well against competitors like AWS and Google. However, our currently fragmented GTM approach and specialized requirements pose challenges that need addressing to maximize opportunities and maintain competitive advantages.
The Chief of Staff will play a critical role in helping build this new team and enable its long term success.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in relevant field (e.g., Liberal Arts, Business Administration, Management, Computer Science) AND 8+ years experience in financial management, business planning, operations management, strategy, project management, human resources, or business-related roles
- OR equivalent experience.
- Previous experience leading/Managing a team (People Management)
- Experience driving complex, multi-stakeholder processes and cross-team programs to desired results while managing risk.
- Ability to create effective relationships, influence and collaborate internally and externally at all organizational levels.
- Experience building Detail-oriented project plans
Citizenship & Citizenship Verification: This position requires verification of U.S citizenship due to citizenship-based legal restrictions. Specifically, this position supports United States federal, state, and/or local United States government agency customers and is subject to certain citizenship-based restrictions where required or permitted by applicable law. To meet this legal requirement, citizenship will be verified via a valid passport.
Citizenship & Citizenship Verification: This role will require access to information that is controlled for export under U.S. export control regulations, potentially under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations or the Export Administration Regulations. As a condition of employment, the successful candidate will be required to provide proof of citizenship, for assessment of eligibility to access the export-controlled information. To meet this legal requirement, citizenship will be verified via a valid passport.
Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Business Management M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $130,900 - $277,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $165,600 - $303,600 per year.

Responsibilities
Leadership Effectiveness
As the LT leads the business through transformational strategy moves and a fast changing landscape, own LT & extended LT processes and agendas, including follow through and related communications to enable successful leadership of the organization. Participate as a valued LT member and offer synthesized business perspectives relevant to influencing key strategic decisions. Maximize the effectiveness of the OU leader by helping balance priorities, communicate effectively, participate in the most relevant meetings, and connect with the team.
Rhythm of Business (ROB)
Lead the Rhythm of Business for the OU. Partner closely with the Segment office, Sales Excellence, SE&O, Finance, HR to drive the meeting rhythms aligned to the OU achieving its business objectives.
Team Development & Culture
Work with the Business Manager and extended LT to help make the team a great place to work. In partnership with HR and the LT, shape and drive the people agenda and lead team health initiatives. Orchestrate team trainings and brownbag series to contribute to ongoing development. Define, plan and drive cross-team process improvements (e.g., team recognition).
Communications
Partner with he Business Manger to plan and execute OU leader’s communications strategy and vehicles that support organizational strategic missions. Drive internal communications for team meetings and other internal communications at major milestones. Plan and manage team meetings including All Hands, staff meetings and manager meetings.
Business Partner Relationships
Establishes and maintains key points of contact with internal teams with the Segment (United States Public Sector Industries) and business partners (e.g., Finance, PR, HR, Marketing, RS&F, Business Development); manages and cultivates relationships with leaders of internal teams. Builds relationships with senior executives (e.g., global executive sponsors, CVPs). Acts as an advisor to senior leadership on a particular area of expertise, leveraging breadth of deep technical/product knowledge, organizational context, and market awareness on strategic business decisions.
Strategic Project Leadership
Partner with OU leader and the LT to define and manage Strategy project(s) as a project lead through goals, deliverables, feedback, and timing expectations, providing structure and guidance for others; proactively identify and address roadblocks. Manage projects independently and/or by leading project teams.
Business Integration
Drive strategic initiatives and provide thought leadership. Identify issues that impede business group success and provide solutions/recommendations. Identify opportunities to create cross group collaboration and synergies. Partner with HR to orchestrate team design conversations and facilitate successful implementation of organizational plans. Demonstrate discretion and professionalism when working with the leadership team on sensitive business and organizational issues, manage ambiguity and propose workable solutions to challenging problems.
Customer and Partner Engagement
Establish and manage the approach to key customer and partner engagement in alignment with the business objectives for the OU. Plan the leader’s travel and engagements including supporting documentation and follow up.
