Overview
Windows + Devices Group’s Manufacturing Test Solution Team at Microsoft is seeking a Hardware Engineer II to deliver results in the world of Manufacturing Test Engineering at Microsoft. The Manufacturing Test Solution (MTS) Group is a core member in the Microsoft Devices Operations (MDO) Organization, which is part of the Experience and Devices (E+D) Group at Microsoft. The MTS Group is responsible for developing testers for testing all Microsoft Branded hardware devices in manufacturing. We develop partnerships with our internal development teams and third-party external suppliers to deliver high-quality test solutions that delight our customers and deliver a fantastic Windows experience.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience
- OR Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
- OR equivalent experience.
- 1+ years academic or professional experience involving Computer Architecture, Network Theory or Power Systems, Analog/Digital design and verification, Communication systems design, Digital System Design, Mixed Signal Design
- OR equivalent experience.
- 1+ years experience using Python, C/C++/Matlab/Perl.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience
- OR Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years technical engineering experience
- OR Doctorate Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
- OR equivalent experience.
- Hardware Debug and validation experience.
- Data analytical skills- Knowing how to use data based and analytical tools.
Hardware Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $100,600 - $199,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $131,400 - $215,400 per year.

Responsibilities
- Responsible for defining, implementing and maintaining world class test and measurement stations used to bring Microsoft’s Devices to the Customer.
- Develop and design manufacturing test solutions to ensure the quality performance and functional requirements of subsystems (such as RF, Audio, Optical, Touch, Sensors and others) in Microsoft consumer electronics products.
- Collaborate with mechanical engineering, firmware, hardware verification, and many other engineering and design disciplines to optimize the overall system from concept to completion in the factory.
- Build long lasting, strategic partnerships with our partners and position Microsoft for sustained success by working closely with suppliers, contractors, and engineering services to ensure that the product is developed on time with high quality.
- Conduct design/debug investigations and support development, maintenance, failure analysis, and resolution activities including statistical Data Analysis of the Failure logs and factory data.
- Develop project documentation including specifications, test methodology, schematic diagrams, layouts, schedules and presentations to meet requirements and communicate the electrical design and its progress.
- Develop the test plan to fully verify and validate the system before the factory builds.
