The Microsoft Corporate Accounting Revenue Recognition team is responsible for the reporting accuracy of billions of dollars of revenue across the world for both US GAAP and local statutory reporting. The Senior Finance Manager is the key finance person responsible for evaluating complex customer deals and partnerships to
- ensure proper revenue recognition in accordance with ASC 606
- Build strong relationships with key stakeholders to create solutions to enable complex deals
- Consult with key stakeholders on deal financial structures to enable scalable solutions and
- Enablement of Custom Deal Financial Obligations.
This role is responsible for advising key stakeholders supporting Microsoft’s commercial strategy, and for ensuring revenue is reporting correctly with governance, transparency and consistency aligned to Microsoft policies and practices.

Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications
-Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting/Finance, or related field experience in accounting or finance experience
OR Master's Degree in Business, Accounting/Finance, or related field AND experience in accounting or finance experience
- Professional accounting certification such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent.
- Strong communication skills to influence business partners and deliver complex messages with clarity
- Critical thinking, comfortable dealing with complexity and ambiguity with tenacity to find answers and reach conclusions and operational excellence.
- Strong planning and organizational skills with ability to work under tight deadlines.
- Ability to effectively interact and communicate across a broad spectrum of audiences.
- Experience with complex systems, processes, and programs.
- Ability to work both independently and as a team player.
- Strong Microsoft Office application skills, especially Excel.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in multinationals with multi-product/multi-segment finance roles.
- Experience in the technology or software industry.
- ASC 606 experience/ practical application
- Project Management experience
Responsibilities
The Senior Finance Manager is responsible for:
- Evaluating complex customer agreements and documenting the proper revenue accounting under ASC 606.
- Reviewing significant and non-standard customer agreements to evaluate revenue recognition impacts and propose solutions that align with internal policies and company objectives
- Researching and documenting accounting assessments and and policies. Helps to field complex questions from business partners in alignment with accounting policies.
- Advising key stakeholders (Deal Desk, Sales, Sales Finance) of the revenue recognition implications of custom solutions and negotiated customer contractual terms
- Partnering with Microsoft Business Operations to design and enable custom solutions for negotiated contractual terms including sku creation, invoicing, collections, payments, procurement, tax.
- Creating reporting to track and manage custom customer contractual spend commitments to ensure customer awareness and compliance with contractual commitments
- Participating in cross-team initiatives to process improvements, efficiencies, and clarity
- Contributing to process-improvement efforts by collecting and reviewing business partner and team feedback and incorporating industry best practices. Participates in workflow process design sessions, and partners with leaders to update processes. Identifies, evaluates, and leverages technology that could automate or accelerate and innovate internal processes and deal metrics
This position requires a driven, self-starter capable of effectively prioritizing and operating with a high degree of ambiguity in a fast-paced and changing environment. The role will consult with finance business partners on complex deals, and proactively identify areas. The Strategic Ventures team has high visibility to senior-level management across the business groups, Deal Desk, MBO and Corporate Accounting.
