As a Senior Program Director for Responsible AI you will work hand in hand with the safety, engineering and product management teams building and deploying Copilot across the Microsoft product suite, and liaise colleagues in the Office of Responsible AI to ensure that our principles and commitments are met in a timely and product-first manner enabling execution at pace, deployment at scale and good governance throughout. You will define industry leading process and partner on creative engineering solutions that will set the benchmark for the future.
This opportunity will allow you to grow and further your technical understanding of all aspects of AI development, develop and refine partnership and execution skills within a highly agile interdisciplinary team and become adept at understanding all aspects of safety and risk across the AI landscape both within Microsoft and beyond. Responsibilities
As a Senior Program Director for Responsible AI you will:
  • Build and lead a team to work across Microsoft AI in the day-to-day delivery and development of Copilot to ensure that Microsoft’s Responsible AI principles and practices are satisfactorily embedded.
  • In partnership with colleagues from the Office of Responsible AI and the VP, Responsible AI, define and thereafter maintain an end-to-end governance approach which is consistent with Microsoft’s Responsible AI principles and practices.
  • Partnering with colleagues across Microsoft AI and beyond, define and deliver technical solutions to ensure that workflow and tooling seamlessly integrates with that approach and delivers timely outcomes that meet Copilot business goals.
  • Report to stakeholders within Microsoft AI on key performance metrics associated with the implementation and maintenance of Microsoft’s Responsible AI principles within Copilot, monitor same and establish relevant substantive or procedural targets based on those.
  • As required, partner with colleagues in the Office of Responsible AI on upcoming external developments (including legislative measures) that may require new or adjusted measures to be implemented.
  • Advise and provide support on future facing adjustments or novel challenges that may require to be addressed within Microsoft’s Responsible AI Standard as it is updated over time.
  • Partner closely with colleagues across Microsoft’s Corporate, External and Legal Affairs (CELA) team in general, and in particular with team members directly advising on product risk to ensure that any approach is consistent with Microsoft's Responsible AI principles and governance processes.
  • Act as a central business owner and accountable team member for all aspects of Microsoft’s Responsible AI practice, providing a key bridge between product teams and the Office of Responsible AI or the wider CELA organization where relevant or required.
  • In partnership with colleagues from the Office of Responsible AI, develop and deliver bespoke ongoing training for Microsoft AI on all aspects of Microsoft's approach to Responsible AI implementation and governance.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree AND 6 years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience working in the Generative AI field or directly AI related technology such as ML in an engineering, product or technical program management role OR equivalent experience.
  • 3 years' experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects
  • 3 years people management experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience reading and/or writing code (e.g., sample documentation, product demos).
  • Experience managing complex legal and regulatory projects in a fast paced technology setting, especially in relation to Generative AI or AI technologies.
  • Experience of advising on legal and regulatory risk associated with novel technology implementations and/or designing tools or software for governance solutions
Technical Program Management M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
