Overview

Principal Software Engineer- The Loop App Experiences team

The Loop App Experiences team mission is to build a collaborative platform that enables a new class of applications and experiences on top of Fluid Framework (https://fluidframework.com). One of these applications we are building is Microsoft Loop, a new app that combines a powerful and flexible canvas with portable components that move freely and stay in sync across applications. As a Principal Software Engineer focused on infrastructure, you will play a pivotal role in building and scaling secure solutions that support millions of users. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, implement, and maintain critical infrastructure including authentication and identity management systems, ensuring reliability, security, and performance.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated experience or knowledge of authentication protocols (OAuth, SAML, OpenID Connect), cryptography, and identity management.
  • Direct hands-on experience with cloud platforms like Azure or AWA and containerization solutions (Docker, Kubernetes)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

o OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

o OR equivalent experience.

  • Experience designing and building enterprise cloud solutions.
  • Experience working across sovereign cloud boundaries.
  • Experience writing performance-critical code and strong debugging skills.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on scalability and performance.
  • Demonstrated communication and collaboration skills in a fast-paced environment.

Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Partners with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for one or more complex scenarios.
  • Provides technical leadership for the identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for a product, application, service, or platform.
  • Leads by example and mentors others to produce extensible and maintainable code used across the company.
  • Leverages deep subject-matter expertise of cross-product features with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project managers) to lead multiple product's project plans, release plans, and work items.
  • Holds accountability as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI), mentoring engineers across products/solutions, working on-call to monitor system/product/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions.
  • Proactively seeks new knowledge and adapts to new trends, technical solutions, and patterns that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale and shares knowledge with other engineers.
