In Regulatory Governance, our goal is to help create systems and processes for effective compliance and maintaining trust across the four core trust domains - cybersecurity, digital safety, privacy, and responsible AI.
This role will help other lawyers and compliance professionals across Microsoft better structure their advice so that it is more effectively implemented in our products and services. The person in this role will help establish processes that encourage a consistent, risk-based approach to implementing regulatory requirements. This individual will have a strong sense for how regulations are applied in different legal cultures around the world as well as how engineering groups ingest requirements and implement them.

Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications
- Juris Doctor Degree or international equivalent degree AND 6+ years experience as a practicing attorney with law firm experience and familiarity with privacy and data protection regulations
- OR equivalent experience.
- Active license to practice law in a jurisdiction and capable of meeting admission requirements in relevant jurisdiction.
Legal Counsel IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $141,800 - $248,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $179,300 - $268,900 per year.

Responsibilities
- Provide guidance to four trust domains (privacy, cybersecurity, digital safety, responsible AI) on how to analyze and interpret new legal requirements in a consistent and actionable way.
- Engage with government affairs and other local legal resources on understanding developing legal and enforcement trends worldwide.
- Assist in coordinating responses to regulators and maintaining consistency across responses.
- Work closely with engineers and other non-lawyers on the practical implementation of legal requirements.
- Effectively navigate engineering organizations.
