We're looking for a Principal Group Engineering Manager to join us to work on a big bet for Microsoft, Azure. If you are passionate about User Experiences, Cloud Services, AI and Data, and you want to play a leader role in the releasing mission critical features for Azure, then we have a tremendous opportunity for you.

Incident Management (IcM) is a mission critical service in Azure CXP. It is the one Incident Management System for all Microsoft services, the cornerstone of our efforts to enable every Microsoft service team to efficiently manage incidents and keep services healthy. Having all Microsoft service incidents together enables us to run data analytics and machine learning on it and helps us detect incident patterns to reduce Time to Mitigation (TTM) and even avoid future incidents.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of experience managing other people managers

Additional Requirements:

  • Other Requirements: Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science
    • OR related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript,
    • OR Python
    • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 6+ years people management experience.
  • Experience with one or more cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), etc.)

  • Extensive software engineering experience, including building and operating reliable and large-scale web applications and services.
  • Expertise in software design, development, problem-solving, and debugging.
  • Proven track record of delivering high-quality, customer-focused products.
  • Skilled in fostering cross-team collaboration to develop innovative solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to create an inclusive and engaging work environment where employees thrive.
  • Experienced in growing people and teams through modeling, coaching, and demonstrating care.
  • Deep understanding of full stack development, cloud technologies, design patterns and standards.
  • Experiences with delivering Large Language Modules (LLM)/Generative AI powered user experiences and applications.
  • Experience with or exposure to Agile and iterative development processes.

  • Drive for execution and results, while delivering quality software for large scale projects.

Software Engineering M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $161,600 - $286,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $209,600 - $314,400 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Leads, coaches, and builds a diverse, inclusive, high-performing team where all team members can do their best work.
  • Fosters collaboration with key stakeholders, such as project managers and technical leads, to accurately gather user requirements and drive team alignment.
  • Leads the charge in identifying dependencies and orchestrating the development of comprehensive design documents for products, applications, services, or platforms.
  • Champions code excellence, optimizing, debugging, refactoring, and reusing code to boost performance and maintainability, ensuring maximum effectiveness and return on investment (ROI).
  • Strategically guides the team in managing multiple group’s project plans, release plans, and work items, ensuring seamless coordination with relevant stakeholders, including project managers.
  • Serves as a technical beacon, acting as an expert for Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) roles and vigilantly monitoring engineers across product lines, ensuring system/product/service integrity through on-call duties.
  • Leads by example in product development, meticulously scaling to customer requirements, applying industry best practices for scalability and performance, and taking full accountability for any products that fall short of excellence.
