Microsoft Silicon, Cloud Hardware Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) is the team behind Microsoft’s expanding Cloud Infrastructure and responsible for powering Microsoft Azure’s vision to be “The World’s Computer”. We are Software and Firmware PM team, enabling a secure, reliable, and most trusted cloud experience to customers and partners worldwide.

We are looking for a Principal Technical Principal Program with a track record in leading software & firmware platform initiatives and strategy for an organization. You will help us define and develop tactical and strategic solutions to meet the immediate and long-term needs of our services that form a critical part of Azure infrastructure. You will communicate Microsoft Azure requirements to our external partners, as well as coordinate collaborative efforts with various internal Azure Engineering teams. You have excellent communication skills to drive programs with multiple internal/external partners teams. As a seasoned program manager, you have a desire and ability to understand customer needs and a willingness to develop holistic and data-driven approaches to product solutions that delight and exceed their expectations. You have a very solid understanding of software development lifecycle, firmware and hardware integration experience, the ability to apply these fundamentals to ‘cloud-readiness, and most importantly - an unyielding passion for creating products that customers will fall in love with. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record translating the needs of a highly diverse set of AI & machine learning use cases into a differentiated set of supercomputing-class systems, solutions, and experiences, and apply them to Azure’s underlying infrastructure systems.

In the SCHIE AI FW COE team, you will provide overarching technical direction to the team of firmware and software engineering. You will take an active role and partner with internal peer teams and external partners to ensure highly available, fully secure software and firmware solutions to enable the AI datacenter servers.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 6+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
  • 5+ years of experience as a technical Program Manager or in a technical role with systems experience

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of building low-level SW to run on HW e.g., Firmware, UEFI, BMC, BSP… etc.
  • Experience in technical program management of complex cross-group, cross-business, cross-disciplinary projects
  • Proven ability to synthesize and communicate solutions to complex technical problems.
  • Exceptional organization and project management skills, e.g., experience with SW/FW agile project management methodology, TFS, DevOps, JIRA or similar
  • Experience with datacenter infrastructure management
  • Familiar with the E2E development process of SoC product development
  • Data center HW/SW project experience from inception to go live
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity, prioritize multiple strategic and tactical options, and drive issues to closure with a high bar on quality
  • Technical savvy. Know how to solve the hard problems, and demonstrate ability to work independently Excellent communication skill and interpersonal skill
  • 10+ years of experience working in software development
  • Experience working with software code in one or more languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Python, etc.

Technical Program Management IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.

Responsibilities

  • As a higher leveled principal technical PM, you will work with the engineering team and hardware teams to ensure software and firmware plans are well defined and incorporated in the plan.
  • Work with our HW New Program Initiative team on new HW SKUs under development, and ensure SW & FW development, validation and roll out plan is full proof. As principal technical PM, you will work closely with your engineering counterparts to be responsible for the cutting-edge AI, next generation compute SKUs execution.
  • Define and develop vendor agnostic requirements for our innovative hardware solutions that powers Azure through active engagement with internal/external partners
  • Microsoft is leading the way in building standardized requirements and process with key partners in the hardware industry. As a principal technical PM, you will partner with other TPMs, Architects, and engineering managers to drive this standardization within Microsoft and across the silicon industry.
  • Drive development teams to deliver features by agile execution across sprints, backlogs, milestones, and lead continuous planning efforts.

Base level responsibilities

  • Oversee the different SW & FW team plans and deliverables
  • Develop requirement specs and PM functional specs for new features
  • Manage semester planning, engineering sprint and backlog with Engineering teams
  • Work with external and internal partners (Silicon Vendors, ODM, OEM, Hardware, Azure Service teams etc.) to drive Microsoft Azure requirement and coordinate development efforts with different Azure and Microsoft Engineering teams
  • Responsible for bringing in systematic SW/FW development practice to the team.
  • Communicate with multiple internal/external partners teams located in different places in the world to drive programs.
