Overview
The Digital Safety Unit sits within Microsoft’s Corporate, External and Legal Affairs (CELA) division, whose vision is to empower every person to have safer digital experiences. The team’s primary objectives are:
- Shape global policy and emerging legal frameworks related to digital safety by engaging with industry, government, and civil society;
- Mitigate digital risk by enabling Microsoft's compliance with legal obligations and voluntary commitments to remove or otherwise manage illegal and harmful online content;
- Develop and maintain Content and Product Policies for Microsoft’s services;
- Integrate safety by design into Microsoft product and services by engaging with engineering and business groups
We are seeking an outstanding Policy Director, Child Safety and Wellness to join our Digital Safety team. As a Policy Director, you will play a key role in how we develop and implement content and product policy requirements across Microsoft’s diverse services. Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree AND 8+ years work experience in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Digital Safety, Trust and Safety, or related area
OR Master's Degree AND 6+ years work experience in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Digital Safety, Trust and Safety, or related area

OR equivalent experience.
Additional or Preferred Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience drafting and managing trust and safety policies or programs.
- 4+ years of experience managing a Digital Safety, trust and safety, or related program.
- 4+ years of experience working in or with a large, matrixed organization.
- Specific subject matter expertise on child safety and or wellness issues.
Corporate Social Responsibility IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $129,200 - $248,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $162,000 - $268,900 per year.

Responsibilities
- Research, draft, implement, and regularly iterate Microsoft’s internal safety policies to ensure they reflect Microsoft’s values, principles and commitments.
- Own the relationship with key product stakeholders and own communication with product teams.
- Research, draft, and publish product specific policies.
- Aid in the research, drafting, and publishing of Microsoft’s content policies.
- Resolve and document unique policy issues and serve as an initial point of escalation for policy concerns from internal stakeholders.
- Support the advancement of Microsoft's policy agenda that addresses issues supporting Digital Safety.
- Develop, manage, and execute Microsoft strategies and programs supporting the Digital Safety Office.
- Contribute to the formulation of Microsoft’s Digital Safety initiatives and/or topics.
Internal Collaboration
- Work with product teams to evaluate new features and products as they launch ensuring that risks are identified and mitigated, products comply with Microsoft’s product policies, and that new products uphold Microsoft’s values
- Identify and work closely with engineering and operations teams across Microsoft to influence product development and user experiences that will further our digital safety mission and goals.
- Support the execution of strategies that promote Digital Safety and other key businesses objectives.
- Participate in and/or leads intra-group and/or cross-group projects and ensures accountability by leveraging project management approaches.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams across Microsoft to develop coherent and principled safety policies and processes applicable to unique services.
- Escalate intra- and cross-group misalignment as needed.
Business, Technical, and Societal Expertise
- Contribute to and/or implement solutions for advancing Digital Safety agenda, while managing risks and consequences.
- Understand and apply detailed knowledge of Microsoft and Corporate and Legal Affairs strategies to drive results and program integrity.
Representing Microsoft
- Communicate Microsoft's perspective on Digital Safety issues internally.
- Build understanding of business strategies across Microsoft and Corporate and Legal Affairs.
- Assist with implementing Microsoft technology to solve societal issues.
External Relationships
- Partner with external organizations on key projects of importance to child safety and wellness.
- Collect and evaluates feedback from the community and other stakeholders on policies related to the Digital Safety Office.
